Kinja'd!!!

Tomorrow by 5:00 P.M., we should be going home. Last two rounds of antibiotics today and tomorrow. His platelet count is perfect and there are no more abnormally immature white blood cells. He is eating well, digesting well, sleeping well, and regulating his body temperature without the heater.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

We have a follow-up appointment with his pediatrician on Friday so she can meet him and look him over for the first time, and then next week will be the appointment with the dermatologists in Louisville because of these:

Kinja'd!!!

They don’t really suspect it is anything bad, I think. Just need to have it checked out just in case. The only one that is raised is the little round one on the left. The others are smooth and feel like normal birthmarks. My wife and I both have a fair amount of moles, so I figure he just inherited that.

Today, they’re also listening for his heart murmur. He’s had a minor-ish one the last few days which they said is normal for newborns as the two small ventricle openings in their hearts close up. Some close up within hours and some take days. Doctors didn’t seem concerned about it.

I’m so excited to get him the hell out of this NICU! Shit’s depressing. And he has to meet his four-legged big sister. I have the car seat all set up in my dad car and ready to go.

Glad to hear the little guy is going to get to go home soon. You’re right about the NICU, it’s a tough place to be.

Great news - thanks for the update.

You will soon learn: baby on chest naps are the best naps.

Yay! Glad to hear he’s coming home tomorrow! I see that you have the same seat I do - it’s great, but takes up a lot of space. Davesaddiction is absolutely 100% correct about baby on chest naps, too.

Glad to hear that he is doing better. Nothing more terrifying than a sick baby.

congrats. its good to get out of there. Our first thought when we got home was ‘o shit we’re on our own now’

I was talking to a guy last night about a project and we got to kids. He just had a son thursday. He has a simular kidney issue as my son so I was telling him a lot of what we went through. His some also had some calcium around his heart and a broken leg during deliver. They also messed up his morpheme and he had to be revived.

Yeah we love the seat but it is a big one. Fits decently in my Mazda6 and my wife’s CX-5, though. It would’ve been way too big for my 3.

Congrats. Our first son spent the first couple of days in the NICU as well due to some fluid in his lungs, etc. We were in there with all these little babies, while our son was rather large. I also thought the other parents must be thinking to themselves, “WTF is Gigantor doing in here?”

My wife researched the heck out of car seats (and everything else) before our little guy came. The size is the only negative, but I think all rear facing seats take up a lot of space.

The drive home tomorrow will be the slowest, most cautious drive you’ll ever take. Enjoy it! :)

Yeah, they’ve already ran out of clothes for Chandler and had to have us bring him some. None of the preemie clothes in the NICU fit him.

YAAAYYYYYYY!!!!

All good news. Yeah, the dermatologist appointment is likely just to make sure. Those raised birthmark looking things have a name, which I’m blanking on, but my youngest has a couple of them. They’re usually gone by age five. My daughter’s are slowly flattening out and fading, and they’re not any kind of health concern. You’ll find that doctors are super cautious about anything baby related, which is a good thing :)

So good. Much less comfortable with a 10 year old.

My son is two now. He spent his first week in the NICU (three weeks early and he didn’t cry at first). That place is unnerving, but the nurses that we had were amazing. Congrats and best wishes! It only gets better from here!

I bet. Not so comfortable with a four year old either.

The tickle fights with a four year old are pretty awesome, though! Our youngest just turned 4 last week.

I show no mercy to my children unless they say “time out”.

I’ve trained them to mouth the words right before they pass out. =)

Haha! Same here. My girls are four and almost two. They rough-house a lot (you’d think they were boys sometimes!), but as long as nobody is crying and nothing gets broken, it’s game on.
