Update: Amica customer service is pretty solid. The gentleman I spoke to was calm, helpful and polite. He even empathized with me because his own car was broken into a couple years ago and sentimental items were stolen as well. He knows the feels...certainly helped. Claim will be going through my renter’s insurance and value of the items exceed my deductible so while it won’t be the same I will have those sunglasses back without my gf feeling obligated to buy them for me herself.

Original post:

Went to dig out my car so I wouldn’t have to tomorrow morning...Found stuff thrown all around the inside of the car.

Good news: no windows were broken

Bad news: some expensive sunglasses my gf bought me for our anniversary, Christmas and birthday (they were carbon fiber) are gone. As are some replacement lenses for another pair. And my dashcam. And about $40 in cash I always keep just in case.

Thank God news: the title to my motorcycle is still in its folder, my other pair of sunglasses are still there. Also missing, engagement ring box...But ring is still on my gf’s finger.

Not sure why I started taking pics as I walked over.

Ugh, that’s a gross feeling. At least nothing was broken, and the car is still there. How did they get in?

Damn that sucks. That’s why I never keep anything valuable in my car. Just a first aid kit, roadside emergency equipment, and a small collection of tools just in case.

Oddly enough, some people would steal even those things

Street parking in a city - not something I will ever do a regular basis ever again.

I’ve had several cars broken into and I can tell you what you’re not looking at right now that will potentially give you small relief.

You didn’t have someone cut themselves breaking your car window who then proceeds to bleed all over your cloth passenger seats while stealing your factory stereo from a 15 year old Jetta, certifying that not only is that crackhead blood and you just know that shit’s HIV positive.

Sorry you got jacked.

I am pretty sure when this happened to me it was a tweaker, but they didn’t make it to the stereo because my brother chased the bastard off after the window tint kept the window together too long. But they punched a nice hole and reached down, cutting themselves and bleeding.

So glad a left that shit hole of a city. That was the third window I lost to thieves in about 2 years just before I moved away for good. Also a reason that I will no longer live anywhere without a fully functional garage with space for my cars.

The garage is a sweet to have item but I don’t have one. I’ve found just being in a nice enough neighborhood really does wonders.

This is what I try to tell myself anyway. I’d kill a crackhead for a garage to be honest.

A garage is what I want from a home...I’m just sad cuz those sunglasses meant a lot to me. I just don’t understand people.

My guess is a smooth job with a jim. All other doors were still locked.

You’re assuming they wouldn’t be castrated first.

Unless you already did and that makes your suggestion even better.

Worst part is that they messed up my perfectly aligned rearview mirror when they were jacking the dashcam.

Engagement ring is on your girlfriends finger? Something hasn’t quite sunk in yet. Wait for it in 3...2....

Sucks about the sunglasses man! I know I’d be pissed if someone took my nice pair.

Sweet ST though! I haven’t gotten mine in to any snow yet, I assume it handles it just fine?

That makes sense. Someone got into my dads old car once by pulling off the antenna, and bending it around the window till they hit the unlock button.

Amica is constantly rated as having the highest customer satisfaction in the industry. I was going to switch my insurance over to them, but their quote was $100 a year more than what I pay now. Maybe it’still not a bad idea, just in case I have a claim.

My mom had Amica when I went and leased my first car so I spun off her account to my own. When I went to buy the FoST I got quotes from a couple other places and they came in best, possibly because of loyalty discounts.

They have my renter’s insurance as well and have been helpful in a couple different instances purely on Q&A, not even in processing a claim.

Nope. When I got to it, rear doors unlocked but front did not. Wasn’t a good sign.

I have a redundant habit when I park...keyless lock, walk away, lock so it beeps.

Going to take a closer look today because it was 1am last night (dark and i was tired). But immediately, nothing jumped out. Quality job a la AAA or other service when you’re locked out. I’m legitimately impressed, though still sad.

Maybe I will try getting a quote again for my house and cars combined, and see how they do. Every 6 months my car insurance goes up $30-40, yet the cars are getting older and older.

Really?

I just have renters on mine so can’t speak for home (though they’ve talked me through a couple questions no problem) but my auto has dropped each year. I’m only halfway through year 3 of owning but 5+ years total with them and it’s been solid. I wonder if they’ll be able to help you out.
