So Bosozoku Style, is something definitively Japanese, but what if you want to build a boso style car and you can’t find a Cressida, 300zx, RX-7, or Celica? Or what if you just want to be weird and use an American car? What car would you start with? I think the car I’d use would be an old J body. Specifically a Sunbird convertible. why? Well for starters it has a “nice” body shape, and I like convertibles for boso cars. Also it’s a car that no matter how you modify it, no one is going to cry about it.Not to mention it’s flat hood would make adding a shark nose pretty easy lol.

Kinja'd!!!

Imagine that, but like this. Lol

Kinja'd!!!

Another choice would be a Ford Fairmont. Closer to a traditional choice as it’s an From the late 70s early 80s, and RWD. and it’s unique roofline could make things interesting. Also it’s foxbody so suspension mods should be easier.

So if you were building a Bosozoku car, but also want it to be ‘Merican what would you start with?

A T-top Buick Regal. Or if I could find a Trans Am extra cheap....

I thought about a G body, I think it could work. You could take it to lowrider shows just to see what people do.

I’d argue that this is the American equivalent to bosozoku

Kinja'd!!!

All the stereotypical mods typical of an American build turned up to 11. (For the record I love this and bosozoku)

It is also quite square so a sharknose would be easier. And who doesn’t love T tops?

B-body or Panther.

The best base is a completely average, totally forgettable car. There are few cars that are as all-American and average as these.

You know, I can’t deny it. These just scream out for crazy mods. They’re total garbage with a decent base design that makes them perfect starting places for projects. One of my all-time favorite custom cars was the stretched C3 in Mystery Men.

Good question... The AMC AMX would actually pull it off pretty well

Kinja'd!!!

I’d hate to screw up a perfectly good AMX, but the shape of it would be a good starting point.

It already looks cartoony and crazy from the factory, so that’s a good start.

That front end actually is pretty similar, and it’s got a great shape in 2 door form.

I’ve never before thought of putting Victory pipes on a Caddi, until now.

That car really does look like an American Boso. So much crazy fiber glass. The funny thing is the Corvette Summer car wasn’t even all that crazy compared to some of things people were doing with Covettes, fiberglass, and bass boat paint.

Just do it with the 70 and up ones; the 68-69s are the start of that body style and have some design cues that the 70s lost.

You mentioned verts make good bosozoku. This would be perfect, and just extend the wood theme to the boso parts.

One of the guys at speedhunters is building a yanki style Dart. I think it’d make a good bosozoku car.
