I think I figured out my intermittently dead start button. The problem seems to be the kill switch. It would not start when I was leaving the office for lunch, but when I flipped the kill switch on and off a couple of times, it made a quiet sound and then fired up.

I guess I will be opening it up for a look.

Legendary Italian reliability.

Pull the connector for the switch off and use some contact cleaner on it.

Interesting. That should be easier to replace than the starter.
