This is a 2017!!! XC60. Look how confusing this shit is. I’m usually good with infotainment but this is so complicated. The new sensus is so simple but this is just amazingly convoluted.

Also the interior is just so dated. The linear wood is cool but the rest is atrocious. I bet dealers can’t wait for the 60 series refresh.

That’s an XC60 interior, not an XC90

I would honestly take that over a second touchscreen. I think it only gets cluttered because of the built-in dialing, which seems a bit dated. The rest — mainly the HVAC diagram — looks pretty sweet. The BLIS button sounds amazing.

How is it confusing? There are so many buttons and it looks like minimal touchscreen bullshit.

The screen is operated by the upper right knob. And almost every function works with just that one knob and it only rotates left and right.

I’m not a Luddite or anything but trust me it’s very confusing.

There’s no touch at all. The screen is operated by the upper right knob and it’s two buttons and a left and right and because of that they have to really change things around to make it work.

It’severything that was wrong with old infotainment system that brought along carplay and Android auto, which also aren’t all that good.

Volvo’s new sensus touch is much better.

I really don’t see why it’s so confusing.

Every button has a clear label and there is some logic to the layout (radio on top, hvac on bottom)

Having owned a much simplified version of that, I can say that the only real annoyance was that the buttons were a little difficult to identify by feel. (I owned a V50, but an S40 and C30 are practically the same interior)

While there are a lot of buttons it doesn’t look that hard to get the defrost going and 98.5 on the radio. It just a layout issue and not looking neat and tiddy.

Except it’s not complicated at all? All of the functions are quite clearly labeled.

02/13/2017 at 11:22, STARS: 0

Ita because with this old sensus system the computer does most of the work and the buttons are largely useless. And to use the computer you have a tiny little knob. Like I wanted to pause my podcast and I saw a button for forward and back and all these other things but no play/pause.

The new sensus has everything touch but volume, forward, back, play and pause all have physical buttons.

Much simpler.

Good snark. It’s a podcast so no, but on my s90 it’s just the center button.

Thats what got me searching everything in the first place. Seems like a pretty basic function to be missing no?

How about rewinding 15 seconds?

All these things are standard on modern info systems.

Ha he has only watched it for half of last season! Im sure once he watches a few more races he will be able to give a pretty good analysis about each race. F1 should also pay for him to go to a race or something because they are getting a lot of US exposure with him talking about the races on his podcast.

Many reasons but it usually pertains to podcasts.

Pause and rewind 15 seconds are very useful if you miss something or someone says something to you or (gasp) you get pulled over

Serious answer: turn off the stereo .

Pause buttons don’t necessarily make a good infotainment system though.

My wife’s 2016 Impreza has pause buttons in the audio screens, but the infotainment in her car is atrociously bad.

The iDrive in my 2011 BMW is mediocre and has its own counter-intuitive quirks, some of which are quite stupid, but is at least noticeably better than hers.

I’m still not a fan of having a damn screen in my dash, tbh.

I posted about how that system was garbage and people here got strangely defensive about it. It really doesn’t fit with the overall quality of these modern Volvo’s and very much looks like it’s top-of-the-line from 2005

I was going to step up to defend Volvo because I had a very basic S40 with the above system and it was nice for what it was. I can see how the control interface that worked great for radio, CD, and HVAC probably would not be sufficient for a fully-featured infotainment system with only the addition of a little knob thingy

In it’s defense, 2017 is probably the last year of that system. And it’s been around for years now.

Honestly though I prefer buttons to the touschreens. Everything is where it should be, dialing a number is a breeze because REAL buttons, there’s still knobs for volume and AC. It looks a bit cluttered, but a couple minutes with it and you know where 90 percent of what you need is.

Compared to those nightmare systems BMW and other premium companies do with stuff buried in screens, I quite like it.

I had a 1985 Volvo 245 Turbo wagon, and with the A/C on, if the weather conditions were just right and the fan was running full blast, the system would shoot little hailstones out of the center dash vents, all the way to the back seat.

I was never certain if this was a defect or a feature.

Kinja'd!!! "The World of Vee" (theworldofvee)
02/24/2017 at 00:03, STARS: 0

Can confirm this feature/defect. I had a beige 940 GL (1994) for a few months in between my totaled PI and hand me down TL back in the early 2000s and it too loved to spout out little hailstones if you asked it politely.
