This is probably a question for Kat or Flavien.

Kinja'd!!!

I apologize for the google image, but it was night time so pics would be horrible, and well, it’s a Fit so it really wouldn’t look too different.

My question:

Why would a Heisei 24 /2012 Honda Fit with 65,000km be for sale for ¥250,000?

It has had a front end accident where the car was fully repaired by the Honda dealer 3 years ago (same owner), and the JCI is due in June of this year.

In the USA this price would mean the car had been totaled and branded with a salvage title, at least if I compare it to the prices of Fits for sale by dealers (everything I have seen is at least ¥800,000).

The reason I’m asking is that my boss sent out a message in our group thread about someone he knows who is moving and wonders if anyone would be interested in buying his car (the message was almost certainly aimed at my wife and I as we are the only people who need a car).

It seems like a too good to be true thing, so I am wondering if I am missing something like a salvage title, sky high inspection cost, etc.

I have a friend who is a marine biologist and spent some time working in Japan. When it was getting close to the time he needed to move back to the US, he sold his car at a very aggressive price in order to make sure it sold before he left Japan. So...maybe some kind of other motivation for the low price like that?

That may be it. It’s an extremely aggressive price. About 25% of what it would be on a lot. I would think he would start quite a bit higher even for a private sale. I’m not complaining about the prospect, just trying to understand the situation properly.
