I have the money, and know where I can find a running cummins+manual transmission. The question is, should I, or shouldn’t I...

I also go to college in Kansas, and live in Connecticut. There’s that bit, but 3 day weekends every week mean that this isn’t entirely out of the question...

While I’m very experienced with the 7.3 idi and the three generations of the 7.3 Powerstroke, I would like to go with a 12 valve cummins for ease of installation and since it’s inline, it’ll fit under that hood hopefully. I’ve dealt with 7.3 wiring and it’s almost impossible to get different electronic components to work together without the VIN numbers and mileage from everything so the dealer (only ones as far as I know with the software) can go through and reprogram everything.

Corbin Goodwin managed to do this, so I, um... I don’t see why I can’t throw a diesel in one... I even have a factory-narrowed positrac dana 60 out of a parts Jensen interceptor I can use in case the gobs of torque from that diesel are a bit much..

well, he started off with one that wasnt actually worth much to collectors and 2: his motor doesnt make enough torque to legitimatly tear the frame in 2......
and 3: his has brakes that work (kinda)

i dont care how ‘good condition’ those brakes are. they are from the 1930s. they will not hold up to modern traffic

yea true the electrics can be a slight pain. 12 valve or 24?

12 Valve, Just for the simplicity. Only thing you have to wire is a starter and kill switch for the fuel, set the RPM governor for 2-300rpm short of what it’s rated for and bang those shifts.

Not a particularly fun one, though.

Sounds like the elements of a great adventure...um, project...

Reading BaT, it comes across like this poor old Roller is kind of a fright pig, actually? Wooden frame with unknown rot — 80+ year-old aluminum!! skin with holes in it; won’t be able to just cut around ‘em and weld in new metal — idk how much torque the Cummins spins up but it’s gotta be more than this old gal can take without serious fabrication — interior is largely complete...ly missing, that is

imho that’s a great powertrain you’ve got available...personally, wondering if it might be better to “pass” on this black hole of time, treasure, and talent for something more sound — and more engine-less — to put that Cummins inside of.

Also closer to Kansas.

Just saying.

Now, about the talent: if you already gots the funds, the time, the skillz, and the chutzpah to think seriously about this (and, I’m thinking, to git’er done, too)...what the *Hell* do you need college for, bruh?? ;-)

I support it because the only reason to do that is because you can. Otherwise that’s a very poor choice of engine, mainly due to size, weight, and power characteristics.

That car would be much better served with a drivetrain swap from an E46 M3.
