It sounds like it’s more of a deterrent thing, and that if you run someone down with intent it’s still breaking criminal law.

I’m perfectly okay with this. the right to protest is one thing, blocking roads and holding up traffic is NOT a peaceful protest. there have been instances where ambulances and other emergency vehicles have been held up by these protests and people have lost their lives to it.

The whole blocking roads without getting police assistance is rediculous but this is also rediculous. I love this state but some of these Reps come from some places you could never even find out existed.

Sometimes it can be. Once again, peaceful protest. Does it help the cause? Who knows, but obstruction gets people talking about why people are protesting.

and they are not the only ones.

and in less severe cases, what about a delivery guy who has rounds to make and cant get his job done on time due to protests? or a trucker delivering time sensitive items?

Protesting is very much a thing and I’m 1000% for it. but not at the expense of other peoples health or livelihood.

The entire reason that protest works is that it’s disruptive.

This is intended to legalize attacks with deadly weapons on protesters, by making it hard to prove guilt, by making intent a factor.

Totally. I get the impact that blocking a major route can have on economies, people’s lives, and safety, but on the other hand, the right to protest is a fundamental right. It’s a hard issue to have a right/wrong stance on.

Smacks of the usual “freedom of speech for me but not for thee” thing American reactionaries have going. Or in this case, freedom of assembly.

In cruder terms, could these people not behave like upset web users who think vehicular manslaughter is a perfectly justifiable response to the existence people disagreeing with them?

Easy: don’t drive your car into people.

Case closed.

Delivery companies file that sort of thing under ‘acts of God’ from my experience. Basically, ‘not our fault, we couldn’t have predicted a mob/parade/presidental motorcade blocking routes have a nice day.

Technically, it’s not too hard to have a stance on the blocking the right of way of traffic. It’s either jaywalking or obstruction of traffic, both of which are typically illegal. Now if organizers work with cities and get proper permits that is a different thing than just “hey, want to protest let’s go.”

Imagine if pro-life demonstrators blockaded people from going into Planned Parenthood clinics.
