It would release a crap ton of water and they would have no way to control it. So definitely localized flooding along the Feather River. Plus Oroville is one of three large major reservoirs needed to meet summer time minimum flows so it’s a big deal if it doesn’t fill up. 

My buddy works for DWR and he’s been up there going on a week now. I think there is still maybe 2-3 months of water to go over the spill way that has all but eroded away.

As a kid, a friend’s family lived in a house literally at the base of a dam. A small one holding a small reservoir, but a dam nonetheless. We used to walk our big wheels up and ride them down the spillway.

Oh please a subdivision is being built next to an active quarry across the highway from me and the people moving in are ranting on NextDoor about how the blasting at the quarry is ratting their homes. Apparently they didn’t notice the huge quarry across the street. Or the goddamn billboard on its hill facing the subdivision saying “DANGER ACTIVE QUARRY FREQUENT BLASTING”. These are the same fucking idiots who would absolutely build a house downstream of a spillway. /rant
