Electrically the negative terminal is ground.

I’ve always been confused by that. I always thought the side with the extra electrons, was labeled the negative, and that’s where the electricity flowed from. But if you hook up the negative of the good battery to the ground and the positive to the bad battery you get flow. It seem’s like the terminals are labeled the opposite, but that wouldn’t make sense.

I swear, they must use the same “car failing to start” sound effect in almost every movie/show/ad. I just watched The Pelican Brief the other night, and heard it again in the car bomb scene.

If this reply doesn’t post, it’ll be the third time today. I just had two get Kinja’d, and I tried them both twice. Part of me hopes that they got through, but part of me hopes that Kinja doesn’t post BOTH of them. I hate double posts.

That might be correct, engine doesn’t look like a Five Hundred/Montego/Taurus/Sable Duratec. Notice the position of the brake fluid reservoir, it might be the truck’s engine bay.

Attaching it straight to ground bypasses the possibility of a loose negative battery cable. And if there’s any chance that you didn’t make a good connection with the jumper clamp, resulting sparks will be further away from gasses vented by the battery.

But you’re right: In most cases, attaching the jumper lead to the negative terminal is sufficient. Ground is ground, wherever you choose to tie into it.

Wilhelm? Yeah, but that’s become an industry joke.

I don’t think I’m supposed to recognize THIS sound. They’re even using it in music videos!
