I’m right with you. I love these and the Premier Padminis (rebadged Fiat 1100). I’m first generation born in the US, so I made lots of trips to India to visit family and now for business. I absolutely adore these cars and really want to bring one over at some point. The shipping cost is probably just as much as the car, but what the hell :)

When I looked into it basically was. However for the price of a container one could also get a cheap old Vespa to toss in the to offset the price.

That’s a great point! I didn’t even think of that. Bajaajs are super cheap and lots of those are 25 years old easily as well.

Peugeot doesn’t currently sell in India, and this deal is apparently tied into some sort of a joint venture agreement with Hindustan Motors.

If they use the name at all, its just to exploit whatever nostalgic goodwill the Ambassador brand may still carry in India and use it to shift some cars that may be built under contract by Hindustan. We could maybe see a version of the 207 with some Amby styling cues added to the front, but I doubt we’d see the original car back in production after 3 years off the market. It was only selling 2,000-3,000 a year toward the end, anyway.

Of course, there’s also the chance that this asset sale was set up simply as a means for Peugeot to inject some money into Hindustan to improve their financial position and/or help them pay for upgrades to their plant as a precursor to the joint venture, and neither company has any intention of actually using it again.

Haha I had never noticed that, and I’m sure I’ve seen it at least 100-ish times.
