Using Natty Ice as a safety image because what I need help identifying is even worse. No, really.

What exactly could this white thing be? It’s covered in ants on one side, and seems to be mouldy on another.

what does it smell like? that almost looks like an acetobacter “mother” which forms on the surface of wine when turning it into vinegar.

Just looks like the moody ooze you get when you toss all the beer cans and the odd random scraps left behind from a party into a garbage bag and leave it in the basement for several months because you thought it would be valuable and worth going through later so you left it for your roommate who had nothing to do with the party and who stumbled on the bag after everyone else moved out and thought “oh hey, that sounds like recyclables” but has to sort them himself.

I’m going with JimZ, it’s probably a bacterial ‘mother’...Either the can wasn’t sealed properly, or the brewery has seeeerrious sanitation issues, so the beer got ‘infected’ by bacteria and it turned the beer into a wild/prison/bathtub malt vinegar. If those are really ants, the ants probably brought the bacteria to the party.
