Kinja'd!!!

Friday Morning I went to Denny’s for breakfast and got to drooling. Not over the heart attack specials, but because of the McLaren 570S in the parking lot. After I finished drooling, and finished trying to figure out who in the Denny’s drives a McLaren I got to thinking about the badge.

This last Spring was the last time I saw a McLaren. I’m thinking it was an MP4, but I saw it so briefly, I was focused on the front badge to confirm that it was in fact a McLaren, that I did not get a good look at the car itself.

However because I focused in on the front Badge I remember very well that it had the McLaren swoosh. seeing the 570S the other day got me wondering, why do some McLarens just have a simple badge that says McLaren, yet others have just the McLaren swoosh.

As far as I can tell, only the Mp4-12C and the P1 get the swoosh, all others get McLaren spelled out. It does not seem like dates has to do with a switching of the badging, yet the F1 has McLaren spelled out so it does not seem to be exclusive to top of the line McLarens. So how do they determine which car gets which badge?

Something about me hates that stuff. Porsche are fiends for it.

Because at Porsche anything is an option.

I bet they charge way more than $5... but no bet, as that is a good thought.

I haven’t. I’m sure it’s decadent. But I’m not sure they make as much off pure badging as Porsche do

All models in the Sports series have the McLaren logo written out. Models in the Super Series and above have the option of the swoosh or the square badge. It’s an option to change it from rocket red to “stealth carbon”.

Edit: nvm, it appears all models after the 12C/P1 switched to the name tag.

Oh but carbon fiber is very expensive to make. Perhaps not that expensive, but paying premium for premium materials doesn’t upset me too much itself. Though, if you pay that much money for an absurdly strong material for such a trivial task, you’re an imbecile. Plastic would serve as well and is probably lighter.

I mean the badge options themselves. You can get a 911 with “Carrera” on the back, or “911", or nothing. If you want those badges painted it’s $1030 AUD. Another $530 to get the logo on the doors. Thankfully it’s cheap until you start trying to get it painted, but even so I find it all silly.

If you get, say, a BMW M5: it says M5 on the back and that’s the way I likes it .

Who in Dennys did you most suspect was the owner?

Honestly, none of the people I saw looked like someone that would drive a McLaren, and as a teenager I used to try to match customers to their cars while I was sitting in restaurants. I probably got close to 2/3rds right. In this case I really had it down to 2 tables as my best guess. A guy that was on his phone the whole time with what looked like almost a trophy wife that was bored to death.

The other was a large group of people possibly a family plus a few close friends. While most the people at the table I would rule out there where a couple people that looked like they might drive a flashy car as they certainly dressed a bit flashy.

For the most part though, I knew it was too unusual of a car to have a type of owner.
