I’m flying Southwest next week and haven’t been on one of their planes in twenty years. Anything I should know about? I got a budget ticket so I am expecting a budget experience.

Check in online the moment that online check in is available. That’s how they assign boarding numbers now. The quicker you are, the better seat selection you get.
They still give away Peanuts I think, so let them know if you’re allergic.
Southwest is light years better than other discount carriers- like Spirit.

You get a free drink if the flights long enough! Like WilliamSW said, they’re pretty good for a budget airline.

Things to expect:
A Boeing 737
Two free checked bags, and they WON’T get lost or damaged along the way.
Peanuts. Or pretzels
No assigned seats, just a boarding sequence number. Seating is first on first served, so if you wind up with a high boarding number prepare for a middle seat.
The most relaxing, stress-free flying experience short of like Virgin or some shit.

One more thing. IF the plane is a -800, and IF you manage to get on board before anyone else has claimed them, the exit row window seat offers about six feet of leg room.

Check in online the earliest you can, it gets you in an earlier boarding group and lower number so you can get a window or aisle. no assigned seating makes it imperative. Everyone is super chill because that’s the only airline that knows what to worry about and what not to worry about.
