Looks like the GS-F doesn't hold its value too well

Kinja'd!!!

Lexus of El Cajon down in San Diego has this brand new 17' GS-F listed for damn near 90 grand (which is a lot for something that could have made waves if it had the V10 from the LF-A that was rumored for years). Its a looker for sure.

Just a straight shot up the I-5 and a little over 113 miles away at Lexus of Cerritos, the exact same car, with the same options and same interior color, just different interior, probably a few months older and with only 13457 miles on it is $23,350 less. That’s huge, at least to me. Why buy the new car? This is one of the many times where the new car doesn’t make any sense. But it also show that the GS-F may not have the resale value death grip that Toyota’s and Lexus have always had.

I don’t think any sedan is safe from tanking values right now.

True in some cases. But look at the last gen CTS-V. I haven’t seen any under 30 grand and that’s for ones form 2010. Even the last Chrysler 300 SRT8 is hard to find under 25 grand. I wonder why this was hit the hardest in the short amount of time.

I think this is more indicative of Lexus being wayyyyyy to ambitious with the new car pricing. Lexus wants people to think of it as an M5 or CTS-V competitor, but really it’s more like a 550i M-Sport/CTS V-Sport competitor. In fact it’s most spec-for-spec on paper competitor may be the Audi S6, which stickers from $71k. The reviews have been glowing and say it drives better than an M5 despite being slower, but I still think being down on power they are reaching on price. I’d expect it to take a big initial hit, then retain value pretty well after that. So yeah definitely worth buying a used one, because probably won’t just tank in resale after that initial drop.

Yea I totally agree with you. The current gen GS alone is a car that’s fantastic to drive, especially on the track its surprising, even in basic GS350 guise. But they did over reach. I seen a head to head Motor Trend did with this against the CTS-V and they said this was the better car in the twisties, but the trans wasn’t a good pairing for the engine. It also doesn’t help the fact that Lexus F line has been spotty at best with most things coming from them the last few years being poser F-Sport trim lines on almost all models. The brand has no performance pedigree outside of the LF-A and its been years since the IS-F left the market, and the RC-F is forgettable and also overprice I think.

Hopefully though I can pick one of these up in a few years for $32 grand.

Two years ago I had ambitions of buying a GS350. The only performance fancy schmance Lexus worth throwing money into a garbage disposable is an RC-F. Hnnnnnnnnnnnnng

Yeah, this is it. I would add that they’re trying to get a $30+k premium over the GS350, which is too steep. The GS350 is a decent value if you’re ok with the old tech drive train. The F is well overpriced I think.

That’s a really good point. I think they are trying to fill the price gap with the GS450h but a V6 hybrid replaving the non-F V8 is an odd marketing choice.

Like I mentioned to the other guy, the current gen GS350 is surprisingly good in the twisties and on the track for what it is. However the F brand is a performance joke, and the RC-F is nothing to write home about. Having driven one myself it seems I got the impression that the F performance mods on it were an afterthought and it drives like it. Better money would be spent on a ATS-V coupe.

True- I always forget that one, because it’s overpriced too, and virtually non-existent around here. And my DD is a GS350, so I tend to notice them.
