Kinja'd!!!

- It uses centre take-off steering gear.

- The fuel tank is flat & under the cabin floor.

- The rear shocks are angles so they encroach less in to the rear passenger area.

It weights 1900lbs from the factory, so taking weight out make so damn light.

Intake, gnarly headers, exhaust, tune, tasteful but 100% functional aero, premium brake upgrade, coilovers, light wheels/sticky AF tires.

Cost including rad GAZOO inspired paint job.... $35,000-$38,000?

.....about $35,000- $38,000 out of my budget. Especially when not counting the pizza and taco fund during the build

The trouble, as EL_ULY pointed out, is that these cars COULD be so cool, but they aren’t on account of their urban mission. If Toyota/Smart were...well...intelligent they would pull a MINI and offer something for the magazines to go nuts for get a niche enthusiast community on board. making a hot version of a car like this gets it lots of press and then people would actually know that the normal version even exist.

Actually, smart does have hot versions of the fortwo. They even have a Maybach style “we’ll do literally anything you want” variant...but not in America. Why is this? I honestly cannot even tell you. Mercedes-Benz in Germany says they’d be happy to build a US version of the sporty fortwos and bring over the forfour, but Mercedes-Benz USA says “well, there’s no market for that, so no”.

Well, I wouldn’t call the brabus “hot”, more kind of...less cold.

It’s pretty respectable with about 110 bhp. I reckon they are holding back from the truly hot version until Renault finishes tweaking the engine for the Renaultsport variant of the Twingo (the new fortwo and Twingo share the same engine). Usually the fastest version of any smart model comes out a few years after introduction, so we haven’t seen the best yet. :)

That said, even after that possible hot version comes out, we’ll still never see it here...
