I am now the new Second Trumpet in the Austin Opera Orchestra.

Usually, there is a first round where they winnow the players down to two or three and then have a final round. I killed it so hard in the first round that there was no second round. One and done. Thanks for all your support, Oppo.

I’m auditioning in about three hours for 2nd trumpet in the Austin Opera. I’m feeling pretty good about it, but, for some reason, not as good as I felt when I won the job with the Austin Symphony back in August. But we’ll see how it goes. The audition starts at 1:00, and the hardest part is sitting around and waiting for it to start.

I’ll let you know how it went. Fingers crossed!

Both. While the two orchestras work under different contracts, they employ many of the same players. The two organizations work together on scheduling so there are no conflicts.

It’s nice when those great players are also great people. So many of them are stuck up assholes. That’s great that you got to work with him. I never have. Here’s something for your stocking next Christmas. These are brass quintet arrangements of standard Christmas carols done by my friend and former ASO member Gary Slechta. Wayne plays lead on them. They are fresh, jazzy takes on the old chestnuts. Unfortunately, the woman who sings on a couple of the charts is pretty awful.

That would be cool but my big thing is time. I have a consulting business that is growing like crazy, and we have a new born.
