Mrs Comes Over is gone for the weekend, doggo has claimed his space, I shall attempt a “treat for kennel” maneuver...otherwise, I may be sleeping onna couch...

American Foxhound. Best way I have found to describe him to those with no experience, he’s the size of a dalmation, but looks like a beagle. If you’re familiar with hounds, he’s similar to a treeing walker coonhound, but a little less rugged, a little more speed...current sleeping aside. He’ll be 12 in June, lost a little speed, but he’ll hike all day if you’ll let him.

Looks like there’s more than enough room for two on that bed.

Heh, probably, but hounder is very selfish about stretching his foxhound legs if he’s got room. Thankfully, he made one more trip out to see why the hell I wasn’t in bed yet (watching Richard Hammond’s Crash Course on Amazon Prime), so the “treat for kennel” maneuver was successful and I have the bed all to myself. Snoring without elbows in the ribs shall commence post haste. Was up in your neck of the woods last weekend to see the parents, need to stop at the new 5 Guys for burgers next time I’m up.

$60 Costco bed... It’s the way to go. Put it near a heater vent, and the dog will never leave.

My pit/german pointer gets on my bed like that too. I let him, but sometime during the night he decides it’s not worth my restless sleeping to stay.

Here is my hint to making room - get under the blanket and keep moving over until she gets annoyed. She will either get off the bed, or decide that it’s time to readjust sleeping positions.

It’s kind of funny, at 11 1/2, I joke about him claiming his space, but he really treats the kennel as his safe space. He’ll sack out all day on the bed or couch, but when he really wants to bed down for the night, he wants his kennel...he knows he’s entitled to a treat, so he’s not going in there without it, but his wanderings as it gets later are really in expectation of going to his ‘den’.

That’s so true for the hounder as well...I’ve tried letting him sleep up with me when Mrs Comes Over is gone, and in the middle of the night he’s all “uggh, too much moving, I want to go to my kennel”

Mine is 13. There’s truth to not letting them rule the houshold, however I now have ‘senior stairs’ to my bed just in case he wants to say hello. I’m not weird at all. Hope you enjoy the night with your little guy.
