Just got a message from a friend saying her ‘89 Tercel took a dump. From the sounds of it she had a piston ring break apart and destroy the piston and cylinder wall, and she can’t afford to get it machined and rebuilt. Don’t know what kind of workspace she’s got or if she’s confident enough to pull off an engine R&R herself either (definitely not incapable though) so this might be a big ask.
I think her best bet is finding another engine and swapping but I can’t do much from 2000 miles away. I didn’t promise her anything except a “well I can ask”.

I suggested that. But she’s on out of state (well, out of country) plates, which leads to a bit more hassle in the registration game than she wanted to deal with.
