Watched this last night because I couldn’t sleep. Boo.

I remember this movie being really cool as a kid, but as an adult it just reminded me how much you could gloss over in an 80's science themed film and still move forward with a story. On the one hand, I respect that its not a 3 part saga, on the other...so much gloss.

Join Paul, a deeply unpleasant know-it-all kid from Ithaca (Near Cornell, ever heard of it? ) and his liberal would be reporter girlfriend on a fun filled lighthearted romp about domestic nuclear terrorism. A Movie that is a casting and music choice away from being a season of 24.

Get a hoot the way this arrogant teen casually infiltrates a highly secure plutonium refinery guarded by one frail old man, on a whim using a remote control car and a frisbee.

Laugh along as he builds an implosion type nuclear weapon in his own home under the noise of the nuclear scientist dating his mom by reading up on a little theory. Did I mention the C4 (?!) he buys from an army buddy for the cost of a couple of car tires?

And cry at the emotional conclusion of exposing the facility and its dark purpose to the world as opposed to being blown away about a dozen times like would actually happen.

To be fair, John Lithgow was actually pretty great in it, and it was fun to watch Frasier’s dad totally suck and being an American general (did he just say bloody hell?). My main beef with the show was how much I hated the little turd main character. I was rooting for him to be shot at the end.

This concludes the HHFP movie review of minor relevance. Thank you.

If I remember correctly, this movie features the Shortline bus, but fails to depict its true horror (or maybe it was just better in the ‘80s).

I’ve been a computer geek ever since I was a little kid.

Tried to watch Revenge of the Nerds for the first time in maybe 15 years a little while back.

It’s amazing what they did back then, and how it would never, ever fly now.

it was a VERY different time. Honestly, I don’t think we are too many years from a cultural backlash against societal sensitivity in media....just about the time my kids are teenager...AH HELL!

Shows like Married with Children and In Living Color wouldn’t fly now, either. I remember watching both pretty religiously.

“highly secure plutonium refinery guarded by one frail old man”

This is actually pretty accurate. In the pre-9/11 world all of these facilities were pretty poorly guarded. Hell, a bunch of nuns from that goofy Plowshares (I think?) group managed to walk right into one of our enrichment facilities in the 80s.

There is a theme in 80s movies about dependence on computer security...I guess it was real too. Also thank you for reminding me the word I was looking for was “enrichment”. Couldn’t think of it for the life of me

I know. I just can’t commit to it. Not sure why. I guess I am waiting for an excuse like tent watching.
