Doesn’t matter. It’s intention is to get people to crush old cars. If they charged $200 every year, it’d still be shit, but $1000 every five is obvious cash-4-clunkers all over again, but without the cash.

House speaker Tina Kotek’s Communications Director Lindsey O’Brien said “the Speaker had nothing to do with this bill, and if you look it up you can see that it’s a Revenue committee bill, and the chair (Representative Barnhart) has already said he doesn’t plan to move it forward. So the bill is dead.”
Phew!!! What’s interesting though the bill language doesn’t support the why behind this bill? Was it to get people into more fuel efficient vehicles, more modern and safer vehicles or was it an arbitrary number picked out to tax part of the Oregon population on? I would be very interested to see what the Revenue committee’s thought process was on this.

I thought it seemed like a very large sum of money for a demographic that may not be likely to afford it. (Speaking for myself and my 20 year old Toyota too.)
