And I think it’d look pretty damned good. A little bit of Goof Off Graffiti on the lights and mirrors to remove the paint and overspray as well, as well as painting the wheels white (because 70s Wagon wheels) and it’d look positively bitchin’.

*WARNING* WHINY TEENAGER AHEAD

Of course, Dad absolutely will not let me buy it. Or a V8 for the Dakota. Even though it’s the money I saved up. Of course.

UPDATE: Went to talk to my Pappaw about it. He worked out of his garage for years, and was a flipper at one point, so if I trust anyone, it’s him. He said it’s worth looking at! There’s hope yet!

As a former teenager, sometimes you just have to say “It’s my money and I’m buying it.” (within reason, of course)

Your parents may hate it at first, but when they see how much you enjoy it and how passionate you are about it, I guarantee they’ll change their mind. That’s how it was when I bought my Trans Am, and thus temporarily had 2 crap cars...

That being said, a lot of the time they said “no” was because they were right. They won’t always be right, but they’ve been there.

Just something to remember.

The biggest problem is the money’s in my savings. And I’m 17 and don’t have my license just yet. Otherwise it’d probably be in the backyard right now.

That’s a solid $1500 truck and hilarious advertisement text as well.

My dad let me buy a rust bucket Datsun 240z when I was 16, much more dangerious that this. It was my money and my decision. I lived and learned alot from having a crap can.

“Picked this 77 up before it started snowing so I’d have somthing 4×4 put some work into it before hand undercoated what I could with cans to keep it from rusting any farther still solid for being 40 years old replaced frunt shocks brand new frunt drive shaft break lines calipers rear wheel cylinders and fuel filter stops great no pulling from one side to another. The cons I had with it and why I’m selling is its only a 3 speed auto not comical these days about as fast as it likes to go is 60 the other is gas it enjoys using it it needs exzost work loud and at lights you can smell it don’t make for a fun drive if the exzost was fixed I’d say if you don’t do a lot of traveling on the express way it be a good in town truck / plow truck wood work whatever purposes just don’t go the fastest good power for how old it is runs great shifts good good heat transfer cace dose what it should in cold days it needs to worm up for a few minutes before moving don’t like going anywhere till it worms up any other questions text or call.”

I think, provided the ad is accurate, it’d be a great buy. A coat of paint, or epoxy primer or something and it’d look fantastic.

Also a good point haha, I scrutinized over the Trans Am for hours to make sure it wouldn’t be trash like my Sentra. I knew it was a much better car, but my parents were appropriately skeptical...

I agree, the old dodge v8's are easy to work on, a simple tune up will help tremendously. If safety is a concern add a modern high back bench seat and 3 point seat belts. If it’s slow, that’s a good thing.

THANK YOU! It’s not even safety (I spend my summers in 2 cars with lap belts. One of which needs a latch replacement because I can’t open the passenger door from the inside.

First thing I looked at was a bright-orange, not-quite-finished 350 swapped S-10. I went with my dad to see it, I had a few concerns of my own but still wanted it badly. He had 2 basic comments: “Can you finish it”, and “That’s a ticket-getter”. Getting into someone else’s project car at 16, probably could have fixed it... but at what cost? And he’s right, I’d have had the thing impounded if I’d been able to run loose with it at 16.

Needless to say I didn’t like the conclusion and the next time I went by myself. To a dealer. And damn near screwed myself. I had the papers signed and then found out insurance was going to be absolutely killer, no way I could afford it. Lucky me the owner of the dealership stepped in and tore up the sale.

Lessons learned. Third time lucky.

The really bad part is that they use several of those multiple times. They’re sure that is the correct word/spelling to use.

Also, is OP sure they want a transmission that isn’t comical? Who doesn’t want a funny gearbox?

Perhaps the dark grey they came in. I normally hate grey, but on these old Dodges, it looks pretty damn good.

Here’s the ‘87 Ram my buddy had. And yes, that’s a Cherry Bomb that ends right under the door. Thing sounded badass for the week or so that it ran.

Don’t know how I never got notified of these, but.

1. On the ticket getter. This piece of shit has 170hp and weighs 5,000 pounds. It’s likely slower than my Dakota. (That’s actually the biggest issue. He doesn’t want me to have more than one vehicle. I can’t really say his thinking is flawed, but I know kids my age with like 4 toys already.)

2. I can’t tell you whether or not it’s junk. I can’t even go take a look at it.

Oh, and dealers give me hives. No contracts for me. I pay cash, or I don’t buy it. No exceptions.

Because it was a reply to TheJWT.

1. Yeah, no way that thing’s a ticket getter... The only thing you might get written up for, ever, (provided you don’t drive like a douche) is when the neighbours complain that “it ruins the look of the neighbourhood and needs to be removed”. And those people can suck it.

2. If it’s old (simple) enough, and you’re dedicated enough, nothing is junk :)

I bought from a dealer in the end... but I have the same feelings. I don’t want to make payments on ANYTHING. Even 5$/month subscribed software makes me uncomfortable. So yeah, I paid cash.

Our neighbors are totally cool. When Dad had his Firebird, the elderly lady next door (in her 80s now) was standing there telling him to do a burnout.
