Thank God, President Trump wants to make flying great again. Maybe he’ll name his pilot as the head of the FAA. After all, he’s a “real expert.” Here’s a brief report of Trump’s meeting with airline executives at the White House yesterday while the press was allowed in the room.

“Good place for meetings. Good place for a lot of things.” Trump said of holding meetings at the White House.

“I’m thrilled to welcome the leaders of the airline industry to the White House.”

POTUS congratulated airlines at succeeding “despite the bad equipment that the airport gives you, in many cases”

“I have a pilot who’s a real expert,” POTUS said, noting that his pilot has said airlines are often provided with “the wrong stuff.”

“Let’s order the right equipment. Probably the wrong equipment cost more.” POTUS said.

“We want the traveling public to have the greatest customer service and with an absolute minimum of delays.”

“We spent six trillion dollars in the Middle East, we got nothing.” POTUS continued.

“And we have an obsolete plane system, we have obsolete airports.”

. . . .

Southwest spoke first and said the top priority for helping airlines would be to “modernize the air traffic control system” noting that money spent on the system has not helped improve it in the past.

“I hear we’re spending billions and billions of dollars, it’s a system that’s totally out of whack.” POTUS said of the air traffic control system.

POTUS inquired as to why airline corporations had allowed the government to invest in a faulty system. Southwest informed POTUS that the airlines are not “in control” of those decisions.

POTUS said that the system could potentially work better if FAA was run by a pilot because it is not currently, as a meeting attendee confirmed for him.

The White House - Monday, February 13, 2017

Good morning, everyone. After a weekend of careful delib..., delib-a, um, thinking, I’ve found the next head of our Federal Aviation Administration. He’s a great pilot, a military pilot, a true war hero. A great war hero never gets captured. Like me, I’ve never been captured.

Some of you may be familiar with him. He’s been on TV, that’s where I first heard of him, actually. A great pilot, the greatest. He’s flown in combat, with outdated equipment, and still managed to arrive on time, every time. How can he do that in a war zone with outdated equipment? That’s a big part of why I picked him, the biggly-est. He knows how to get the job done with outdated equipment, like we have here for our air traffic control. So I thought, if anyone can do it, this man can.

Ladies and gentlemen, without further ado, I’m proud to introduce to you the next head of the FAA, Five-o-clock Charlie! God bless Trump Industries and the USA!

I’m all for improving the operation experience of airports, including air traffic control. Lower costs and improved flight efficiency is good for a traveler.

In addition, make it so that the process of going through the x-ray weiner scanners is both quick and effective at identifying terrorists.

What’s wrong with that?

Hmm so which members of the newly filled swamp are connected to air tracking equipment makers, and how much would a new FAA leader need to contribute to the MAGA campaign?

But what about the obsolete planes? The obsolete parts?? Seriously, though, the NextGen ATC is a mess, and has been for a long time.

I don’t know that much about the ATC community, to be honest. If it needs an overhaul, I believe you.

Current ATC is pretty old tech. The Next Gen system is supposed to switch from radar to satellite tracking, which would allow controllers to put more planes in the sky, space them closer together, and move more people. However, like most government projects, it’s over budget and behind schedule. Here’s a Washington Post article from 2012, when it was already 4 years behind. Implementation was scheduled between 2012-2025. So I guess we still have a few more years.

what makes no sense to me is how after 16 years, I think every airport security checkpoint still looks like a teenagers last minute craft project. like they woke up and went oh fuck we need to do something. “here are some random cones.... yeah sure we’ll just extend this into the ticket area, rental car spot. Oh the lines make no sense and back up into high foot traffic walkways. too bad.”

ATC is actually a mess, and needs to be upgraded. That project is underway, and has been for a long time, but implementation has been slow an expensive.

Not sure about the claim that our airliners are obsolete though.

No doubt. I expect now it will just get more expensive and more slow.

I work in one of the “Antiquated” systems of ATC. We have STARS, FUSION, ADS-B. We have the safest airspace system with the most volume in the world. We can get a lot more planes up in the air, thats not the problem, there is only a certain number of runways and terminals to park all the planes. We constantly run flow restrictions into lets say Dallas, not because we are inefficient and outdated, but the airlines don’t have enough gate space... NEXGEN coming too late? Thank Congress for CR’s instead of actually funding us.

We are still understaffed, and a number a facilities work mandatory overtime. When we take a hit on staffing we suck it up and not let it effect the customer. Weather conditions are out of our hands and no amount of money is going to change that. We’ve had airline execs running a lot of the FAA, and it’s not that great. We have a ton of competing interest; airlines, Military, General aviation, flight schools, and now we have to start regulating drones....

I’d gladly take some infrastructure money and build us a new building instead of the one we are currently in that was built sometime after WW2, thats the only thing that is “old”.

Thanks for that lengthy reply. I have shared it to Oppo, since it needs to be seen by others.
