Kinja'd!!!

customers can sense it, then slam us.

It was very quiet until 8:00 (doors lock at 8:30). At 8:00 lots of people walked it, about 3/4 of the dining room was full. The restaurant industry still continues to baffle me.

Live and learn, you should never tempt fate.

Certain things should never be done. It’s like when we get police or ambulance staff come into our place, I never say, ‘are you having a quiet night?’. If I’m having a bit of banter with them talking about their night (they could be urban or rural police, dog handlers, armed response units, paramedics, ambulance technicians) I’ll say, ‘are you having a Q night?’. Because to say the Q word, quiet, is tempting fate and they really will not welcome you saying it.

It’s because everyone operates in a vacuum. What? There was a local football game tonight and people might want to eat afterwards? What? Someone planned a street festival right in front of my restaurant? And so it goes

Keep your eye on the local events calendar. You will be the hero when you drop a hint and management has the place appropriately staffed when the crowd walks in.
