Kinja'd!!!

I hate my dad’s Taurus. Rode in it the other day and I still can’t understand how a car that is so large feels so cramped. And I say this as an NB owner/driver. Nor can I understand how anyone can see out of the back of that thing. Egads.

IIRC the interior dimensions are quite similar to a Fusions, except for trunk space

I vehemently hate that Taurus for completely unexplainable reasons. Although I finally, FINALLY saw my VERY first SHO just a couple weeks ago. I’ve been waiting nearly 10 years to see that bodystyle in SHO guise. It’s like an everyday unicorn for me, despite Tauri being everywhere.

Customer has a 2011 SHO just out of warranty. It cooked itself ona. 20 minute drive and may need full head gasket replaced and the water pump is a 17 hour job. The head gasket is almost 30.

I drove a SHO. Didn’t like it at all. It may have been quicker on paper than an AWD Charger V8 or AWD Chrysler 300c V8 (both of which I’ve driven) but the Chrysler twins are far, far more entertaining (and imo prettier and nice to be in). Also worth noting the build quality on my dad’s Taurus is utter shit. 60k miles, no accidents, yet two of the doors don’t line up, the gas cap just kinda droops, random trim pieces are coming un-glued, and there are some rattles in the roof (????) inside.

They are a victom of the, “Why is this gadamn center console so big!?!” trend. Worse still are Jag XJ’s. I squashed my boys when I closed the door because the doors are so thick and the center console is so wide that desptite the car being enormous, there’s only like 8-1/2" inches between the door and the console (I’m exaggerating of course).

Seriously the doors are like two feet thick! And despite being the size of a large felled tree the center console has utterly pathetic storage bins and the cupholders are the bad punchline to a worse joke.

That’s ’cuz about 60% of the Taurus’s width is door thickness. Crash safety, yo!

the miata interior feels surprisingly roomy, especially for its size

i’ve had many different sports car i still love the layout of everything in the miata (yes, leave that window switch in the middle you sports car maker)

The only issue I have with miatas is the cupholders, but at least Mazda made an effort in the NB and put them further back and a bit to the side so i can comfortably shift with two drinks in them

Sort of how I felt about the Flex when we were shopping for vans. I really WANTED to like it because it’s unique and cool in theory, but the whole thing felt “forgotten” by Ford (the fact that is just got the axe is now proof). And the AWD with 365hp sure didn’t feel like it.

The Ford Five Hundred/Mercury Montego (basically a Taurus/Sable with a different name) has *way* better visibility, and is still particularly roomy for what it is. Ford really didn’t do a good job with the C-pillars on the newer Tauri, nor did they do well with space management. Kind of a shame really.

It’s got a little more headroom too. A buddy of mine bought one over a Fushion for that reason. He’s 6'-7" tall.

Taurass indeed

They should’ve just given us the Falcon from Australia. That and/or start making them here instead of that bloated POS in your lead image.

1. Ford launches a full-size sedan on the market with an interior and trunk that are not appreciably larger than a cheaper, mid-size sedan

2. Ford announces that Americans are no longer buying their full-size sedans, so the next one will only be sold in China.

I wonder if there’s a connection.

The trunk is larger by far. The trunk in the Taurus is absolutely immense, dwarfed only maybe by old GM B-bodies. The interior, while the same size as a fusion, feels more cramped. I don’t get it.

Yeah, it is 25% larger than the Fusion’s, doesn’t seem like that big of a selling point though, given the passenger compartment.
