Kinja'd!!!

My publication is getting a brand new Chevy Bolt long-term test car. So naturally, my bosses decided that we needed to drag race this thing against the Cletus-Vette . GM claims the Bolt will do 0-60 in 6.5-seconds, vintage road tests time my Corvette at about the same. Which do you think will be faster?

I’m listing the specs of both cars below for your bench racing.

Corvette/Bolt

Power: 350 gross/200 net
Torque: 380 gross/266 net
Weight: 3,150/3,550
Final drive ratio: 3.08/7.05
Tire width: 225/215

I’m’a say the Bolt will jump out in front.

The Bolt...if Top Gear has taught me anything, it’s that old cars rarely make anything close to their original HP

Ehhhh the cars they have on that show are always 400 miles from death with no ring seal and shitty tuning. My 350 is freshly built and tuned by people who aren’t potatoes. With the side-pipes I’d say it’s making 350 or possibly more.

Cletus-Vette is cool but old. I’m saying dead heat/Vette slightly edging it in the 1/4 mile provided it’s kept all it’s horses in the stable, Bolt win if not. Bolt will get off the line quicker in either case and hold the lead for at least the first half of the race. Vette will put the Bolt away in a big hurry if the race is longer than 1/4 mile.

I think the bolt will have an advantage from a stand-still though from the figures the vette might come back.

I say Bolt wins the 1/8 mile and the vette probably gets the 1/4

Where does the power go to on the bolt? Is it awd? I don’t know if it would even be fast enough to really take advantage of awd...

I’m sure there would be some low end torque on the Bolt but it would die off after 100 kph, and with enough time (possibly within a quarter mile?) the Vette would definitely take it if it falls behinds at launch.

Bolt will jump to an early lead and then the Vette will catch up. How far are you racing? Quarter mile? I’d say the Vette catches it by the 1/8th and continues to open it up through the rest of the quarter.

We’re trying to line up a 1/4 venue but insurance with press cars on a track is dicey.

I did not know it had a freshly built engine. In that case I’m going to go vette, more power and less weight should mean a faster car. Also why did I think your vette had a 427?

Bolt. Old cars are slow.

I think you’ll just barely edge it out if it’s a long enough race. But then you can do burnouts and donuts, so who cares if you lose :)

Looks like you will lose 2 car lengths off the line and crawl back just enough to win at the end of the 1/4.

you SHOULD be able to just pull away from the bolt with ease........SO who wants to give me 2:1 $20 bolt win?...........

Bolt will probably jump to early lead cause 1000% EV torque. But with vette light and more powerful it should win. Only thing that might get you is gearing. Love the vette though. Watched your show on it and that thing is fantastic.

To be fair, if they actually did a proper tune up on ANY of those cars, there’d have been plenty of lost power found.

I think in a short race, the Bolt will take it (due to electrical wizardry). But, the Vette will have 1000% more fun!

How much gas in the Cletus-Vette, and how much charge in the Bolt? What kind of tires? Condition of the Posi-traction? How do you plan on warming up the tires on the Bolt?

In the end, I’d probably say Cletus-Vette for anything longer than an eighth mile, and about a dead heat in the eighth mile if you don’t run only 1/4 of tank in the Vette.
