Anyone using Carly on their BMW?

Good Morning everyone. I’ve had a few cold mornings where my battery warning light has come on and I do not believe the 128i has ever had it’s battery replaced. I would like to register it properly and the like, but I live quite far from the nearest dealership and I like to do most things DIY. Has anyone on here used the Carly app?

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I would like to register the battery and also be able to reset my service alerts after I complete them. I see that eventually it will allow me to do all of these things ($44.99 for the app, $9.99 for battery registration, $4.99 for service pack). Plus it will let me code things too. I would like to activate closing the windows and sunroof with the lock button and also the hard braking lights. I’m also looking for a bluetooth OBD2 transmitter to do this with.

Anyone have any recommendations or reviews of the app and bluetooth OBD2 transmitters?

Thanks! Here’s a Dinan tuned 1M for your time!

I’ve been using it for a few years now. I’ve used it on a ‘11 335d and a ‘13 X1
It works great, and the app developer is very helpful. I had an issue with it early on, and I emailed the guy directly. He emailed me back the same day with a solution. My 335d had all sorts of issues, and the app was able to accurately read all the codes it threw. It also let me program out the SES light when I installed my EGR block. I coded both the 335d and the X1 with no issues, and was able to program the X1 so that the stop/start reverts to the “off” position when I turn the car on. Haven’t got to program a battery yet, but the capability is there. I’ve been using a cheapo $5 OBDII Wifi transmitter to communicate with my the various iPhones I’ve had since getting the app with no issues. It’s the only app I’ve ever purchased and it was well worth it.

Thank you for your helpful and thorough review of the app. I was considering this and the bavarian technic cable. With it being half the cost (gotta save money for my Miata coupe project) and most of the functionality I really can’t lose if it works. I’ll have to download it tonight!

I haven’t bought it yet because I have Torque from a while before I got my BMW, a handheld OBD scanner, MHD, and the guy who coded my car registered my battery for me. But pretty much everything I’ve seen about it has been positive.

Pro tip when registering your battery: if you can’t find a battery with the same Ah rating as your original, make sure to change the Ah rating in Carly.

Thanks for the tip! I’m going to get the label from my battery pictured before I shop for a battery to make sure.

Also, I have this Bluetooth OBD dongle which lists all the protocols Carly needs, but I haven’t confirmed it works with Carly. It works fine with Torque.

Carly sells their own dongles which are rather pricier than mine. The “gen II” Carly dongle is suspiciously similar looking, at least in shape, to mine.
