Larry, tell Vincent what you’ll need. Something very fast. Audi S- . Something that can shove. l’m going to have it for you by the afternoon. l’ll also need a nitrous system. l’ve got the specs.

This has got to be the best car chase scene ever. I know that is a hightly debatable topic. But seriously, those cars, that setting, those actors. Just perfect in my opinion.

I think it is also. There are some bones to pick with the end though, like how cheesy the crash looks and the placement of where the Peugeot actually stops to where it’s shown when Sam and Vincent get out. IIRC the mirror that gets shot is in tact that scene as well. For all they went through to make it realistic, like having a steering wheel on both sides of the M5 so she’s “driving” as the stunt driver is, I wish those few things were a bit tidier. It’s still the greatest car chase scene though.

I think the commentary on the DVD talks about Frankenheimer’s car choices and the chase scenes etc. It’s been so long I don’t remember if that’s where I saw it or some other source like YouTube. I’ll have to get the DVD out and see.

There are a few things like that in the movie. Remember when they’re in that Mercedes (6.9 I think)? When they do they do the jay turn the smoke is pretty bad CGI

Always made me want a E34, but the car in the movie was a 535i

That’s not what I heard. I heard that the budget was pretty low at the time and the director let them use his Dinan M5. The crash scene was probably a 535? I don’t know. That’s the thing with movies, so many stories.

As far as I have found was they used an M5 for some interior shots, but the driving was in a 535i with poorly placed M5 badges. Shit now we need an interview about it. Some one call Robert De Niro and Jean Reno!
