I just laughed till I coughed. I’m just happy to be able to afford the refined dino at 20mpg... I’m paring down the youngins right now and trying to sell my truck, wifey says no more vehicles till one is gone and I don’t wanna dump my Fiat. To be fair, she’s a good influence, and helps me remember that jobs and friends and stuff are as important as accumulating vehicles to the David Tracy level where none work except the worst.

Yeah, I saw the clear side markers (mine are the factory orange) and different wheels and figured it was an AP1... guessing you’re right that it’s an AP2, assuming he switched out the side markers with clear. Didn’t realize that there were at least 4 wheel options, AP1 wheels, and the AP2 V1, 2 and 3s. I like my AP2 V2s the best out of the factory options...

The headlamps and front bumper are AP1; it’s common to put AP2 wheels on an AP1. I was just curious as to whether the owner had done anything more to the car. I’m pretty happy with my stock AP1, but I’d like better brake pads & rotors, and a good seat. Not in the budget right now though.
AP2v3 is my favorite, also the most generally sought-after and expensive, other than the CR.

Yeah, makes sense— get the 17s instead of 16s. If I ever move up north I’ll probably look to get a set of AP1 wheels to throw some snow tires on.
Didn’t have a chance to talk to the owner, he just pulled up next to me as I was in the store. There was another S2K about 4 rows away in the same parking lot.
I just got mine so I’m still figuring out all the differences between the model years, but yah, I did notice the different headlights as well. Not as huge a fan of the CR wheels— never been a huge 5-spoke guy though.
I’m looking to keep the car stock (well, it’s current state) until I’m capable of hitting the limits it’s capable of, but will prob do an alignment before taking it to an autox event. I’ve heard -1.5 in the front and -1.8 (set equal) in the rear is a good starting point.
Otherwise, some sport pads would be nice and I’d like to get the CR wing and some stickier tires; maybe fab up a smooth underbody and diffuser to get the rear to squat down a bit more at speed. I’m pretty sure the “low” stock skidpad rating on the S2Ks is almost entirely due to Aero; I almost feel like I can feel the car start to lift as speeds increase...

I hope it’s a baby 2! It’s the only BMW I’ve lusted after other than the sharknoses and E30s... tho I’ve driven a ~2010 base 3-series and quite liked how they’d aged versus their bloated competitors.

The car was def not engineered for high-speed aero. As far as alignment goes: check out the “UK Spec” if you’re mostly street.

I’ve had some tail happy, fishtailing monsters (280zx turbo, genesis coupe) so I’ll probably want a bit more oversteer, longer-term. UK specs do look good for street... If I can setup lifetime alignments somewhere I could have it adjusted before/ after AutoX days, transition fully to extra front camber over time.
