When I started getting into photography back in highschool I bought a Canon 40D. I used almost all my summer job money to buy it. It was almost brand new (6 months old used off eBay). Well that worked great till about 3 years ago when I got in a tough situation and hocked it. In the meantime I used my s/o’s camera till that ended and for the last year I have only been using film (which I love, but it’s harder to get out there with film) and borrowing my friend’s camera. Well today I ordered a used and almost still new in the box 60D off eBay. I know it isn’t the most advanced camera and such, but it is slightly better than a T3i, and I got a deal so I am happy. As much as I would love a 5DS R, that is just silly money. Anyway, just so stoked about getting back to having my own camera and starting to build up my gear again.

Nice little review on the 60D

I think my friend has a 60D, it takes very nice pictures. My dad and I have Nikons, I don’t know Canons well at all.

Yeah 18mp should take good photos. I am more of a Canon guy. Even with film, so I can interchange most lenses.

I use a 50D for my high-end photos. It’s done quite well for me.

Nice. I think it’ll be a great upgrade after my 40D

I use a 20D, 40D and 50D, all bought used. I have been very happy with all of them. I use the 20 and 50 the most. Even though it is older, the 20D seems to work better in lower light. I keep my short lens on that, and keep my 70-200 on the 50D.

When I was young, it was almost all about the optics. No matter how old the camera, if the glass was good, you were set. Now, you have to consider not only the lenses, but the electronics inside. That’s not a bad thing, just makes is more complicated and expensive. Sounds like you got a nice camera. I’m a Canon person myself.

It should indeed. My D5100 is 16mp, but my dad just got a D800E, so Ill probably be buying his D5300 soon, which is 24mp. I’m looking forward to seeing that difference.

Being able to use your lenses with film and digital cameras is really cool

Love my 60D. Here’s a few photos, though quality might be lacking from uploads.

Mmm, that is a lot of mp. I really wish I could afford the 50.3 mp from the 5DS R. I have no idea what I would do with that and a full frame camera, but it would be epic.

It is so handy, two bodies in a bag with sharable lenses is the best.

Yeah, that is the cool part about film. Glass makes the photo, but today it is all about sensors and resolution and glass, etc. I am also a Canon person

The early digital cameras don’t get the respect they deserve. They see the pixel count and dismiss them. But with a quality lens they are fantastic. They work just like film cameras and I think that is a good thing. Anybody can take a decent photo with 24+mp and and ISO in 5 digits.

I wouldn’t have any idea either, my dad’s D800E is 36mp and full-frame, but he’s an actual photographer and needed something to use instead of his Mamiya RZ67. Ever since he got a DSLR, he hasn’t been using the Mamiya much at all. Pus his film of choice isn’t made anymore.

I use a 6D. If you ever need a full-frame camera and can’t spring for the new 5D cameras, the 6D is fantastic. Only thing is that you can’t use EF-S lenses on it (the mount is slightly different).

Here’s a sample.

Oh man, I love medium format film! And what an amazing camera to use. Now there would be a camera I’d love to own. Too bad they are stupid money. I just use a Rolleiflex for my medium film, but the seals are going bad and leaking in light. So I need to do a little work on it.

I would just love to see how big and crisp those photos would be with that much mp. It’s be wild.

That is an iso you should almost never use. I chuckle to myself at the people I have met asking me how to use their camera better and I start to explain the f/stop and shutter speed relationship and their eyes glaze over. That is when I tell them leave it on auto cause the money you wasted on a DSLR won’t be better than you phone at that point, but whatever they wanted a camera.

I will look into those eventually, but used they are twice what I paid for the 60D. So eventually it’ll happen.

Yeah, he’s used it as his main camera since 1988 I think, up until 3 or so years ago. It’s crazy how much they still sell for, he’s talking with a camera shop here and they’re confident he can get more than $3000 for it. I was hoping he’d keep it, but he realized he’s being equivalent to the guy with a nice car just sitting in the garage, not getting driven. Rolleiflexes, look really cool. I want to get into film at some point, I should probably start with something smaller than the RZ67.

Totally, my dad has had some of his film photos printed on posters, and one even bigger to go on a wall in a gallery. It’s really cool to see the detail so big.

I use a D3200 with the kit lenses.

One of the biggest factors I had in buying that specific model was the fact that it was red.

I’ll trade you the Rolleiflex for the RZ67. That is a really good analogy for that camera. No reason to let it sit and rot.

Oh man I bet it is cool. I blew up one of my large format field camera shots onto a canvas for my dad. That was neat to do. I wish I still had the large format camera, but it was a long term lease to me and they asked for it nback.

It works for me. Changing lenses in the field sucks. Most of what I do is sports and aviation, and the 70-200 on a crop sensor body works very well.

nice, welcome back to the photo game! I have a D3100 with kit lenses, really need to get back on my game and practice with full manual mode. Since smartphones have such good point and shoot cameras now, its nice to have a really good camera to play around with.
