I bought a new vehicle. Price was right, in stock, will be paid off within months of my wife’s new(ish) car.

After that, I’ll find what I want and trade it in.

I have to admit, coming from the 2005 GMC Envoy I inherited when we bought the Edge, this thing is incredibly fun to drive. The GMC (The Beast) is slated for donation.

Going from 13/18 MPG, let’s be honest, 11 MPG average, to 25/35 is very nice.

So many bells and whistles. Backup camera, hands free built in, and a screen for all your “stop playing with your car and drive” needs. Keyless entry/pushbutton start takes a bit of getting used to after 40+ years of taking my keys out to unlock and start every other car I’ve ever driven. The SD card slot is a great driving music feature.

Just need to get decent sized wheels (really like the look of the GTI wheels), tires that don’t feel like pudding when cornering, and tint the three rear windows. Been a long time since I had truck headlights at rearview mirror/retina burning level.

Before you say it, my wife insisted it be automatic. She can drive a manual, but did not relish the idea in stop and go, which is every weekday, if she ever needed to use the Golf. I’ve already tried the flappy paddle gearbox®, and I’m a fan.

They still use the old 20v 1.8 for USDM Golfs? My2016 Leon is a 1.8 tsi but is the current 16v engine. Am loving the flappy DSG myself, my first auto box and I don’t think I’m ever going back to a manual!

Defo get some nice GTi wheels on there, will smarten it up no end, congrats on the new car!

Nope. The US Golf, Jetta, Beetle, and Passat use the EA888 1.8 TSI with 174 hp. It’s been good in the Golf, Beetle, and Jetta. The one in both my Passats have been absolute shit. The torque is great in traffic, though.

Yeah I thought it a bit odd, surely his will have the 7 speed DSG as well, not the 6 speed? So exactly the same as my (also like his Golf, MQB platform) Leon.

Nice, i also have a Mk7 Golf. I’ve owned my GTI for a little over a year and it’s a blast to drive. I think you’ll enjoy the car.

The info I posted came from a few VIN checks because I thought it odd the only thing on, or in the car, that designates it as a Wolfsburg, is one set of the 3 sets of floor mats that came with the car. That set says Wolfsburg, but I decided to use the Monster mats (like mini weathertechs that say Golf). The VIN checks came up as a Wolfsburg along with the specs I posted.

Nope once again. They have an Aisin 6-speed automatic (think Mini Cooper and Volvo S60). We only have the DSG for the Golf R and the GTI. It’s not a bad gearbox, but it’s clearly not a DSG. I will say one thing, it turns 1600 rpm at 60 mph, which I appreciate on highway drives.

We don’t get a proper slush box in any Golf (or it’s platform stablemates) in Europe, DSG or row your own only.

Nice! I had one of those, in the same colour as well, though mine was a base model and a stick shift.

It’s a good car, enjoy it.

Man, those GTIs...I told my wife to say no every time I said “...but a GTI is...”. She said no a number of times.

I have to admit, a Golf has always worn resale red well. Some body styles just do not look good in red, but any year Golf I have seen has looked great in red.

I think red looks great on most german cars. Tornado red is now a almost classic VW color.
