My GF and I met playing Overwatch. I’d say things have gone well, especially since we’re getting married this summer. We haven’t met in person yet (she doesn’t have much free time, since she’s finishing her masters degree right now), but we have spent almost all our free time together online watching Netflix, playing games, or just chatting on Skype. We honestly spend more time talking to each other than most people who are dating in person.
I’ve met plenty of people online in person, and it really isn’t a big deal. You can, in fact, get to know someone very well online.

She talked about having an S&M dungeon. I had to reply out of morbid curiosity.
Turned out she just hit the reply button too soon, and didn’t take the time to explain that it was a joke. Her sense of humor ended up being perfect for me, and everything else fell into place.

I haven’t been murdered, yet! I’ve bought quite a few things off CL and have met people from forums. I also use Tinder/Bumble. Nothing serious has come from “dating” apps because I am not looking for anything serious. A few of my friends are now engaged to their once tinder matches though.

You have to be upfront about the smoking/drinking/drugs things. Drinking beer is like a national right and if you do not alcohol some people will think you are weird, however I’ve also found people to be very understanding.

I use Plenty of Fish. I have used it off and on for a few years. If you’re literate, it’s better than the old way of trying to meet women in bars or clubs.
I’ve had mostly positive experiences. The problem I run into is I’m not interested in getting married again and over the past 9 years, I’ve had 5 women bring up marriage with me.
It takes a certain amount of work to put together a decent profile and then more work goes into contacting women you find interesting.
If you’re over 6 feet tall, fit, have your own place, have a job, have a car, are reasonably well dressed, are reasonably well-read, have good hygiene, have all your teeth, are in your 40s and are willing to consider marriage (something I don’t recommend unless she has more money/assets/income than you), you will likely find dating to be pretty easy.
I have 9/11 of those attributes and I’ve had a decent amount of success... 1 to 2 relationships per year for the past 9 years. And I’m not a ‘hookups’ type person. Nor do I try to date as many women as possible. I find dating is easier in my 40s compared to when I was younger.
I’ve also make a couple of good friends as well.
If you’re in the Toronto area, single, have your own place, a good job and willing to get married, you should have a relatively easy time since there are TONS of women in their mid 30s and into their 40s who are desperate to get married because in at least some cases, getting hitched to a guy with a job/money is basically their financial plan for the future.
That’s been my experience/observation.

I met my wife online about 12 years ago on a journal website called Open Diary...this was back before people were limited to 140 characters online, mind you. We were friends for a while, then started talking more and started dating three years later.
She came out to see me a few times in RI (she’s from Seattle), I flew out there a couple times, we got engaged after dating for a year or so. Just had our first kid a year ago.
I never tried any dating apps, I kinda like that we met as friends and it just took off from there. I’m sure dating apps for work some people, but it’s not the route I’d want to go.
Even the long distance thing was fine for a little while, but she moved here full time 7-8 years ago and it’s been great.
Happy family, though he had just woken us up for the day at like 4am on a Saturday. And somehow this angle makes my head look even bigger than it really is, and it’s a YUGE head, and unbelievable head.

I met a total stranger online, spoke to him for about 20 minutes that evening, and then a couple weeks later drove ten hours to pick him up at an airport, and then drove him 3000 miles home.
We got third place in the Lemons Rally. We don’t hate each other. I’d say it worked out. Romance was not a function (intended or consequential) of the relationship though so ymmv.

Thanks for your input... I’m in my mid-20s but still trying to get a good job (have a low-paying gig right now) and I do want to ditch Lawn Guyland. So yeah that’s more of a priority than finding a girl but it amazes me how shallow a lot of people around my age are. It’s hard to find people with integrity and aren’t just looking for a quick fix.

Not actually dating, but whatever it is, I’m still alive, and happy.
Basically, I was on a forum for a visual novel, and was helping someone edit a fanfic. He decided to introduce me to a friend of his, with the intent of getting us together.
Mind you, she’s dating someone else, so that didn’t actually happen, but about a year and a half after we were introduced, we met up IRL (I was driving right past where she lives basically), she joked about murdering me and leaving my body in the woods, but somehow, I’m not dead, and I’ve known her for almost 4 years or so now. We took a road trip to a TDI get together (in my Prius, and I wore a PriusChat shirt there for maximum trolling value) that some friends of mine were doing for New Year’s, actually.

I’ve dated two women I initially met online through s community. But there were years of interaction on and offline before dating. I have never had an online relationship. Also my attempt at using apps, even lesbian apps has led to close friendship twice, but never a date. I’ve always dated girls/women I have known from a group. School, Work, fandom, etc.

Nibby - mid-20s here. Tinder is my app-based thing (I’ve had relative success at bars, more success w/ friends of mutual friends), and my mindset is just “why not?” when it comes to these things. Worst thing that can happen is that you send a message or two that never gets responded to, and you never see each other ever again. Best case is you hit it off, get his/her phone #, take him/her out to coffee/drinks/dinner, and go from there. Great ice breaker, in my opinion. The hard work is going from chatting on the app to getting together in person!
