Well, if you buy a bridgeport knockoff for $1300, get set up for casting aluminum (~$600?), buy a good metal lathe for ~$500, and about $400 in miscellaneous parts like pistons that are easiest to get off-the-shelf, you could be all set to make your own for around $3000 all in! Then you’d just need to spend 2000 hours making it. NO TIME TO LOSE!

To be frank, a lot of the above is stuff I’ve been working on getting set up myself, for other projects, so I’m not as far off from being able to do such an idiocy as most people.
