Hopefully it won’t be a completely broken piece of shit this time around. Probably not given Slightly Max’s record.

I quite enjoyed the first one, mind you I was doing quite a bit of league racing. The SMS team is full of good people, and over the past 12 months some have been drafted in from the community.

Ian Bell does have his good days.

While I love the looks of Project CARS, I found the physics to be a little broken. It seemed almost impossible to correct a slide, like every car had the dynamics of a Le Mans prototype.

What was wrong with the first one? I recently got it myself. It has some stupid quirks (I can’t turn on or off assists for some reason), but otherwise was very enjoyable.

It was rather borked at launch and steering with a controller still sucks.

Can’t wait! And also, February 16th Project Cars is free (XBox Live Gold)

I got it at launch on the Xbox One and it was broken. Really broken.

First time booting it up, it hard crashed my Xbox which required a hard reset.

Then possibly the worst glitch to ever occur in any racing game plagued my first hours with the game where the steering would randomly lock in the opposite direction throwing me off the track. The Devs then refused to admit its existence despite thousands of people complaining on their forums.

Then when they finally patched it they decided to implement the Xbox One’s tumbled triggers which should be mandatory in a racing game. Problem is they only implemented the brakes and set the vibration to 100% which made it impossible to hold the controller.

Then there was the AI which was just tragic. Every race a back marker would die and would come flying through the field slamming into everyone and pretty much ending the race.

Also the FWD cars just didn’t work. The game treats tyre heat very seriously but the FWD cars would start with cold rear tyres which were impossible to heat up and therefore cornering was also impossible.

Also the physics were really undercooked. If my car wasn’t being sent to hell or orbit it would just randomly explode sending wheels in all directions for no reason.

Maybe they’ve fixed it, I mean they had to but I wouldn’t put it past them to leave it because Slightly Mad are some truly terrible developers.

...steering with a controller still sucks.

That would explain why I’m pretty good with either a wheel or controller in every racing sim but if I play Project CARS I’m absolutely pathetic with a controller.

I still want to turn on stability control dammit, all the cars are completely uncontrollable unless I lightly feather the throttle.

Also, the modding still kinda sucks.

My issue was the wildly unpredictable steering sensitivity.

Pretty much everything you described here also happens with my PC version, I had assumed it was just my computer!!!!! Also, low powered cars somehow have enough power to throw me into a wall just as fast as a prototype can...Oh, and have these devs ever heard of downforce before?

Long Beach!! One thing I lament about modern sims is the lack of American street circuits. Toronto and St. Pete are great circuits that should be in more games.

That too. I set the sensitivity to the lowest...yet half the time I’m still steering into a wall. lol

It sucks, it’s a beautiful game and it plays well on my computer if I use just the right settings, but it’s broken. I’m happy to learn it wasn’t my computer though, it’s been acting weird lately and probably needs a fresh OS install.

The PC version isn’t anywhere near that bad (although I haven’t tried it with a controller), at least as of when I bought it, although the stock wheel tuning is pretty terrible. There are guides on tuning it better (although some of the tuning has to be done on a per-car basis), and I find that it drives pretty nicely... although, yeah, it is too hard to get heat in the rears of a FWD car.

So any chance they will fix that “off-track-tire-dip-you-gone-learn-today-sucka” issue. Seriously, it’s like if you even think about putting a tire on the kerb of just past the kerb, you’re going to spin/fiery death ville.

For sure. I was kind of expecting Daytona but the inclusion of Long Beach was a definite surprise. As a resident of Toronto, the major hurdle would be correctly mapping the massive changes in surfacing on the course itself. Not just the bumps but the coefficient of grip, what with all the repaving.

It was a very for line for sure. I got around most of it with suspension setup and throttle control but for sure making it worry in this sequel would be much appreciated.
