Kinja'd!!!

Apparently it’s all there except for the engine and transmission, and it needs some floor and rocker work. If I had a big enough space, I’d probably try and take this on. It’s one of my favourite designs of the early 50s. I’d still rather get an old car that, yknow, is at least not taken apart. This one is so cool though....Probably good that I don’t have enough space, realistically.

Oh, I forgot to include the ad. It’s a 51 Chevy Styleline torpedo back

Proabably just an SBC, or some other sort of GM V8. I’d have to see what would fit

putting my hand up to a screen to cover the ugly - yes. The top part looks sweet. However, once I remove the hand, there are glaring problems.

1) there is no engine or fenders or radiator or any other bits

2) it’s got posts where posts shouldn’t be.

3) it’s got a bit of rust from what can be seen. Those posts are probably compensating for frame rust.

4) it’s 2000 bucks.

5) it’s far from me, otherwise, i’d get it

A friend had one he sold a while back. It was almost complete and came with a running 350 and TH350 that needed to be installed. The body was in much better shape though. He had it up for a few months at $3k with no bites. I bought the engine and transmission off him and he ended up selling the car for around $1,500

1) The ad says he’s removed the front clip, so ideally that means he has all those bits. Not the engine though, that’s definitely not around.

2) I think those are holding the body off the frame, since he unbolted everything because he wanted to put an S10 frame under it for some reason.

3) I hope frame rust isn’t why he wanted to put it on an S10 frame

4) Yeah...

5) Yeah I’m having to remind myself that I don’t know how to do metalwork, I don’t know how I’d get it anywhere, and I absolutely have nowhere big enough to put it. But I want it.

I’d probably be much better off to look for a better/more assembled one somewhere drier. I just really like the idea of saving cars, even though I don’t have the space or skill.

well, worst case scenario is that you wreck this piece to learn metal work and it will cost you a bit over $2000 in tuition.

The best case scenario is that you’re a natural and will make it into a mint piece

Realistically I am betting on first. Not harshing on you or your skills. Just that statistics and probabilities have me thinking this way

Realistically, I should learn some metalworking and get a larger garage to work in before I try and get anything like this

I concur. Once you do those things, you might find a better one of these.

if you squint a bit, you won’t be able to tell the difference, but less work and more fun
