Maybe there was meant to be a 787 Dreamliner in the picture with the Gremlin but it was grounded for repairs in the shop so they had to take the picture of the Gremlin by itself.

Love those extra striping pieces on the rocker of that Gremlin! Not sure if this is the greatest photo of all time. Do you really feel it beats this?

You mean the rust?

That one is pretty awesome. As are these:

You can’t take a bad picture of a Pacer, really.

Yeah, the rusty spots. Awesome. Was the Gremlin much worse than the Pacer when it comes to corrosion? No bad picture of a Pacer exists. Well, maybe this one:

They were both fairly typical when it comes to rust. Better than Japanese cars of that era. I’d say the Pacer is a little worse because there’s all these areas in it where they sprayed this foam as filler and/or sound deadening and that stuff soaks water. So, it rusts in weird places like around the license plate.

That’s a terrible looking Pacer, but an awesome picture. Torch had a post yesterday where he mentions the Pacer and he’s still spreading the story that it inspired the design of the 928. I thought he reads my articles. I settled that rumor once and for all.

I rarely saw rusty Pacers in the media, that Gremlin though...

Are you ridiculous? It has no rule of thirds. No frame within the frame. No Foreground interest and depth. NO DUTCH ANGLE!!!! Didn’t read the Torch piece. We all now where he gets his news.

Oh, they rust. Rear hatch and doors especially. My doors were always full of water after a rain.

Kinja'd!!!

That Gremlin’s actually not bad relatively.

Good points. I do think those beams on the ground make for an interesting play on depth of field. While a rusted car in the desert is kind of a hackneyed and jejune subject, it does make a statement on mankind’s futile pursuit of dominance over nature, and the fleetingness of technology.

A good story behind, or concept if you will, behind a picture is great. But it will not compensate for proper composition! Don’t they teach you anything in Hollywood???

What’s in the back of that Pacer?

Haha. True. Aesthetics rule.

Some kind of frightening Arctic creature, it looks like. Where’s that plate from?

Look. At. That. Steering wheel. UK. Weren’t these converted wicked with chains and stuff?

Kinja'd!!! "Jonee" (Jonee)
02/16/2017 at 04:00, STARS: 1

Oh, I didn’t even notice. Wow. That’s a rare one. I think they only converted like 50 of them. Yeah, they left the steering where it was and connected the RHD with basically a bicycle chain. Which is how small time conversion companies do it because that was what this was. Just one importer brought them over as an experiment. I’m not sure who did the dash. The British automotive press apparently ripped it to shreds.

Haha, never noticed that kink in it’s door window! That Pacer really was all about style!

Kinja'd!!! "Jonee" (Jonee)
02/16/2017 at 22:13, STARS: 1

That’s a big hump on the door panel to help you close the door. The base model originally didn’t come with those pull straps. Since that plastic became instantly brittle once sun hit it, it’s hard to find Pacers without cracked door panels.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!! "Jobjoris" (Jobjoris)
02/17/2017 at 03:16, STARS: 1

Haha, it is? No wonder I never noticed it! If there wasn’t any metal frame under/behind it it would never last. Especially with ‘70's plastic! I do love the materials they used for those panels!

Kinja'd!!! "Jonee" (Jonee)
02/17/2017 at 03:38, STARS: 1

There was a metal frame behind it, actually, but the panel would still flex. It was not the best plastic, but it did come in a range of colors. My favorite was the fancy 1979 panels with the handle.

Kinja'd!!!

My brown Pacer was a ‘79. I loved that car. It was like a Pacer Brougham.

Kinja'd!!! "Jobjoris" (Jobjoris)
02/17/2017 at 05:26, STARS: 1

Did it come with golden badges? AND WHAT’S THAT: A WINDER FOR THE WINDOWS????

Kinja'd!!! "Jonee" (Jonee)
02/18/2017 at 01:10, STARS: 1

No gold badges, but it did have this elegant hood ornament.

Kinja'd!!!

That was a ‘79 only feature. On the few 1980 Pacers, it was an AMC logo. This one kind of looks like an old fashioned microphone.

Well, for one, the windows couldn’t go all the way down because of the curvature of the door. So, the hump hid the part of the window that stayed up.

Kinja'd!!!

And they were too big for electric motors. At least the ones AMC could afford.

02/18/2017 at 06:39, STARS: 1

Form follows function. With the window that is. I never understood the appeal of upstanding hood ornaments. Only Rolls-Royces and the bigger Mercedes-Benzes can handle that awesomeness. That Brown two-tone Pacer would be my preferred Pacer. Awesome.

Kinja'd!!! "Jonee" (Jonee)
02/19/2017 at 21:25, STARS: 1

That was the Brougham Age, so everything got a hood ornament. Even the first K-Cars.

Yeah, that two-tone Pacer is absolutely magnificent. Peak Pacer right there.

We need a prancing reindeer hood ornament. I’m getting my dad two badges for his new Volvo fenders:

A prancing reindeer for the Wanke r l? Shouldn’t it be a prancing bee based on the noise it’ll make?

I love the prancing moose. That’s awesome. I’ll have to get a pair for the C30 one day. Did you get them from that Volvo sticker guy?

Kinja'd!!! "Jobjoris" (Jobjoris)
02/21/2017 at 07:05, STARS: 1

Nono, on our Volvos of course! The Wanke r l would get a... Wait, I FORGOT! Was it bees?

Haven’t gotten ‘m yet but there’s a local guy selling ‘m . Maybe we should send a few to Donald.

Kinja'd!!! "Jonee" (Jonee)
02/23/2017 at 15:41, STARS: 1

That’s a moose, not a reindeer. Has Volvo ever put a hood ornament on a car? I imagine not since it isn’t safe for pedestrians apparently. I’d like to see a prancing moose hood ornament though. Volga had a deer.

Kinja'd!!!

This guy sells them here. He has ones that are magnetic, which is nice. What’s Donald going to do with them? I’d like to see him use a Volvo as a presidential limousine.

Reindeer, Moose, it’s all Scandinavian to me. In the early years a radiator-cap often was something you’d use to display some personal note. Not sure if the OV4 had it by default but there, Ive seen these without as well.

Kinja'd!!!

Yeah, that’s where I got the Dutch guy selling ‘m. I wanted to send a few to Donald to express there’s nothing going on in Sweden. Except for prancing Reindeers/Moose.

Kinja'd!!! "Jonee" (Jonee)
02/26/2017 at 16:55, STARS: 1

Yeah, that was probably an aftermarket cap with a pressure gauge on it. Someone apparently made one. Doesn’t look right, though.

Kinja'd!!!

I like this better.

Kinja'd!!!

Ah, right. Good point. The moose and deer are much more dangerous than some refugees anyway.

I wonder why only one set of headlights get the full, protection grate treatment. That person’s really got style. I wonder if someone’s stuck their Oscar on their car at some point. I wouldn’t put it past Beatty to pull that stunt.
