Apparently Honda has formed a Joint Venture with Hitachi to make electric motors.

You can’t argue with Hitachi’s prowess in electric motor powered devices, perhaps they’ll also be supplying the gear selector for the next generation of Fit?

One thing to consider is also that the EV Cub concept will be going to production IIRC, and that thing could sell in absolutely ridiculous volume. After all, there’s a lot of cities that have horrific pollution issues caused by massive deployment of 2-wheelers, and the EV Cub would avoid that entirely. (And, they’ve shown that it has a removable battery, neatly solving the apartment gap.)
Honda will need production capacity to satisfy that volume, and they’re probably not set up for anything close to that for electric motors.
