If you arrive at a gas station, and there are multiple pumps open(all of them in the case that brings this up), don’t go to the pump that serves diesel if you don’t need diesel. You have a choice, the guy driving a diesel work truck does not, so he has to wait for your ass to get out of the store before he can fill up.

this is terrible advice. I use diesel in all my cars because it gets better fuel economy than regular gasoline

Anyone leaving their car at the pump should be shot in their face in front of their families.

Oh sure, I just thought I’d mention it, because people who are just barely attentive enough to realize DIESEL FUEL GO IN TRUCK, DURR are sometimes not attentive enough to consider why in the world a sedan seems to be waiting on them at the pump. I’m pretty sure I’ve had people shout at me to go to another pump. Jackwagons.

OMG this so much.

I don’t even own a diesel, but I’ve been there with company trucks. Using the combo pump needs to be a LAST resort. Some of us have choices; some of us don’t.

I had a motorcycle gang volunteer to pick up a car and move it out of my way because the owner/occupants had been inside the gas station for so long. The line at this place was incredible because it was the last gas station for forever somewhere in rural eastern Wyoming (otherwise I would’ve just left).

I carry around a tow strap in my 4Runner, and I’ve been very tempted to drag someone out of the way.

OMG The number of people who have made comments to my wife about “taking up a diesel Pump” are hilarious. One guy tore into her for 30 seconds (there were 2 cars waiting for a spot within 4 pumps that had diesel, the wait was going to be minimal) at the pump about her taking up a diesel spot. Her response was two prong: 1: You missed two pumps opening up in the time you took to walk over here and yell at me, and two, I’ve just sprayed a substance from this pump on your shoes, you tell me if it smells like diesel or gas.

He very quickly realized he had made multiple mistakes in this situation.

Why is it that every diesel pump handle is f’ing disgusting compared to it’s gasoline counterpart...

Diesel tends to flow out after you let off, significantly more than gas nozzles. So you put it up and it rolls down.

Some of the stations here have large truck diesel fuelling stations as well as the ones next to the gas pump. They have the big nozzles and can fill up your truck super quick instead of taking forever.

Also, once you get to the point that you can actually put diesel into your truck, do not just spray it all over the goddam place for no apparent reason. I have no idea why, but the majority of pumps I use have diesel spilled everywhere, including on the handle.

Pretty much all of them keep flowing after you let off, so if you don’t time it perfectly, it goes all over the place.

This.

Along the same lines: If you’re at a station that has a limited number of combo pumps for any kind of fuel that you’re not putting in your vehicle, and there’s any other pump open, take it instead.

For instance, the nearest station to me that sells biodiesel has several diesel pumps (it’s primarily a cardlock station, but also takes credit cards), but only two of them have biodiesel. So, unless you’re buying biodiesel, fill up at a different pump if one’s available. (Although the truck pumps... yeah, don’t use those unless you actually have a truck. Both because you’ll get in the way of the truckers, and because you’ll get a foamy diesel shower if you’re not careful, if the nozzle even fits in your filler neck.)

Same goes for E85 pumps - if you’re not buying it, go to a different pump if one’s available. (Actually, one station near where I used to live had E85 and biodiesel on the same combo pump, it being the alt fuel pump.)

And, if a parking space has EV charging, and you’re not planning on plugging into it (whether you’re incapable of plugging in, or you don’t need the charge), do not park in it - parking in such a space without charging is one of the most dickish refueling-related moves you can make. If you are planning on plugging into it, take a look at the situation, to see if another car can use the cable when you’re done - if not, move your car when you’re done charging. Even if you can, ensure that your car doesn’t keep the cable locked after you’re done charging (some cars do this), so someone else can unplug your car and plug theirs in.

Lives in place where if a station has six pumps, all six will dispense both so problem doesn’t arise.

And that is the second reason I won’t own a diesel.. the first being I never remember they are diesels and fill them with gas instead.

YES!..so much YES TO THIS!......I hate when the only two Diesel pumps in town both have mini vans parked in them that are clearly not Diesel. We have like 15-20 gasoline pumps in town and only 2 diesel. These people are not fit to be part of our society.

Diesel doesn’t completely evaporate like gasoline does.
