Went to get gas over lunch today and the fuel door won’t open when I pull the release. I can see/hear it doing something with the latch on the door so I don’t think the cable from the release level to the door has been compromised.

Anybody have any tips before I call the dealer (it’s still under warranty).

There’s a tiny, black metal flap that serves as a spring that Toyota puts into their fuel door hinges (or did for years, at least). They’ve been known to fall out, and the fuel door doesn’t spring out when latch is pulled.

Try to find some kind soul to apply outward pressure on the fuel door as you pull the release, or find something to wedge under the release handle so you can fiddle with the door.

My Jag wasn’t activating the lock actuator when I pulled on the door handle, but I could hear and feel the cable linkage pulling. It ended with a broken door handle.

Good to know. I’ll give that a try.
