I always put my thumb against the stationary part and use it as leverage to evenly distribute the force from pulling the door handle. Your method is needlessly reckless and will end in tears.

My WRX has similar handles. I hate them. Not because they don’t look nifty. It’s because my wife scratches the hell out of the paint every time she opens the door. I’m not sure if it’s her fingernails or the rock I bought for her. No matter what it is, she can’t seem to get a grip on the handle without touching the paint on the door.
