You’ll never have a better Heineken in your life than one fresh from the tap. It’s also fun to listen to people speak Dutch if you don’t know the language as it’s so similar sounding to English that you feel like you should understand it, but you don’t. The Van Gogh museum is also neat.

Go on a guided bicycle tour - in just a few hours you can cover quite a bit of ground and learn some interesting things about the city history that you won’t get just walking around the city center. Other places to go: Het Scheepvaartmuseum, ARTIS Royal Zoo, and the Rembrandt and Van Gogh museums. Also if you have the time it is definitely worth taking half a day and renting a car and driving to the Hague (or taking the train, but Amsterdam is surprisingly car-friendly despite being seemingly made for bicylces) for the Louwman Museum.

Which, in all fairness,is like saying the best Guinness you’ll ever taste is in Dublin—it’s true, but it’s still awful. But I like awful beer, and awful local beer is always cheaper than less awful non-local beer.

Wynanf Fockink is genever (like a weird gin) distillery in the middle of the old town, the tasting bar is excellent fun, it is run by some mad people.
Or if you prefer beer (or both) you should definately visit Arendsnest
Anyway hope you enjoy your visit, I love Amsterdam. I got engaged there, had my stag do there and visit as often as possible.

The bulldog and dampkring were 2 of my favorite coffee shops but keep an eye out for the little ones tucked into little corners they got the best deals. Anne Frank house and Van Gogh mueseum was so packed we didn’t even bother.
Also I heard Heineken world was great but we ran out of time.
Enjoy! It’s a fun town.

It’s close. Amstel Light also comes from NL and they have that fresh on tap too, but you’ll note I didn’t endorse that at all. It’s exactly the same as what comes out of the bottle purchased from the 7-11 down the street, honestly. However if you’re sipping it while looking at a canal, there is something to be said for it :)

Never. I was subjected to days of Guinness on end once I realized that it was €0.50 cheaper than every other beer in Ireland and that drinking it meant I was getting a free beer every nine beers.
