That name itself is what terrifies me the most. Who the fuck calls it the Homeland but some authoritarian leadership?
If DHS actually did its job of merely working as an umbrella for all of the disparate ABC orgs, I wouldn’t mind it existence. But it can’t even do that. It’s a creepy name and a useless organization as it currently stands.

As someone who has seen refugee encampments in France, and can only imagine what they’re like in the ME: Wow. Fuck this guy. The locals in whatever nation we invade next are going to remember stuff like this. In regards to Iraqis and Afghanis that helped us, they’re going to remember how they were treated when it was time for the US to repay its debt to them.

DHS was founded after Sept. 11, 2001, in response to how the federal agencies responsible for national security had no means of communicating with each other. That lack of communication, that bureaucratic red tape, was blamed as being one of the biggest contributors to why the 9/11 attackers were able to do what they did. The right hand didn’t know what the left was doing.

My good friend in high school was Guatemalan. I once stood in a liquor store where he proceeded to argue with the clerk over his fake ID (yeah, big balls!). The guy refused to believe that Guatemala was a real country and pulled out a book of every State/Military ID in the US, as if that would help. It was the most hilarious thing that almost got me arrested, ever.

Right, but my point is, the DHS still hasn’t solved that problem. It has in some ways made it even worse, or at best, has had no real impact at all in improving the inter-agency communication.
Its purpose beyond making nationalist cowards feel safer is a fucking mystery.

What Xyl0 said, plus seemingly mostly rational people defending it as if it makes perfectly sensible sense. How do you even talk to people so deluded? How could so many of them get that way so fast?
And then you start eyeing the bottled water that everyone drinks now because nobody believes in free clean tap water anymore. But then it’s chicken and egg: how could they not believe in clean tap water in the first place? And then you realize you are like, spiraling ever tighter until you become the anti-Alex Jones and will believe everything because you can’t believe anything.
