Oh, she’s a beauty. Yes, that bezel is sparkly gun metal! Something I didn’t realise from the pictures. It kind of just looks like glare on black or gray, but it isn’t!

When I do a transmission swap, I think I’ll put the TS logo on a special insert in carbon fiber or something to cover up the automatic symbols.

Door should be here in another hour or so. I’m not sure about the CTR carpet yet.

Old cluster type for comparison:

Haha. No idea, we’ll find out when I plug it in. I plan to keep detailed records until I figure out how to flash it to the correct KM. Which is too bad. I’m almost at 160,000KM which is 100,000 miles. I was planning to take a photo and send it to Honda.

You didn’t have to chase the parts? I’m jealous. Your last post reminded me of the time I was actually chasing a UPS truck waving my arms like a maniac.

Awesome cluster!

CTR carpet seems to be MIA. Driver with passenger door called, says he’s swamped and running late.

Transmission swap? Did you get a manual license?

Btw, you mentioned a few times that you bought a piece of land recently... Does that mean you’re finally Japanese now?

You need to read closer:

1) transmission swap has always been planned but is far in the future.

2) No, I do not have my manual license yet. I need free time for that. Maybe this summer.

3) I am planning to buy land soon, but I haven’t yet.

4) No, I can’t submit my final paperwork until mid-May.

When you get to upgrade your license, will that mean you’ll have to do the whole process again, or is it shorter for those who already have an automatic one?

I’m glad I never had to pass the driving exam here. I’ve read terrible things about it :)

Good luck for the Japanese citizenship too... It would be cool if you wrote a full report on what you had to go through to get it once it’s finished.

I’ve been told it’s a conversion and that it’s not as a difficult as completely starting from scratch, but that you should still take a short class at a driving school before doing it.

You didn’t have to chase a truck like a raving lunatic dog chasing a car. That’s good!

Does the cluster carry the data for the odometer or is it coming from some other unit? Or is this any kind issue in Japan at all? In certain countries, messing with odometer reading is not a good thing.

Sadly, it’s stored in the cluster apparently. I don’t THINK it’s illegal as long as I don’t try to pass it off as rolled back mileage (well, kilometerage). Since I am never planning to sell the car (I’ll run it into the ground first), and I plan to keep meticulous records, AND a Honda diagnostic system can apparently input the correct odometer reading, I am not concerned.

So is the only difference in the clusters essentially that gray trim vs. black?

I’ve always liked the optional carbon fiber cluster bezel on the Prelude Type S. Although not enough to pay what people ask for them.

I probably would have aimed for a manual gauge cluster just so it didn’t have the auto indicator in the the middle.

but it certainly looks nicer than the stock one.

Doesn’t exist. Only the base model Logos came in manual and the gauge cluster is really basic and ugly.

If you take it to a dealership I wonder if they can program the odometer in the new cluster to match your car’s actual mileage? Looks nice. I’m a fan of black-faced gauges to the extent that I’m considering swapping out my Miata’s Special Edition white-faced gauges for the base model black ones because it’s so damn Fast & Furious
