A 6.4 liter V8, with 475 horsepower and 470 foot-pounds of torque? Nice.

Does a quarter-mile perhaps in 12.9 seconds, and 0-60 maybe in 4.4 seconds? Cool.

But can it go around corners? That is what I really want to know. If it handle, even a little, this might be one of the best SUVs on the market. It would be awesome to see this keep up with some of the German V8 suvs.

Considering that the Durango RT AWD is already costing over $45k, this will be pretty expensive too. It’s going to be a lot of money for a vehicle with a very mediocre interior.

No one buys an SUV to go around corners.

Holy crap. They actually did it. Out of nowhere too. Beautiful. Now if only it came in B5 Blue.

People do pay for interior quality though. The materials in this thing aren’t great, even though it has power and looks.

And German SUVs can go round corners, so this better keep up with the competition, the times are a changing.

Hmmmm... seems like someone has never experienced the joy of chucking a well sorted SUV into a corner. It’s a truly special feeling to drive quickly on a windy road in something so tall and large.

And besides, good handling always adds to the experience of any performance vehicle.

Any SUV low enough to chuck into corners isn’t an SUV. My wifes has a BMW X1 which is fun in corners (for what it is), but I wouldn’t consider it an SUV (even though I haven’t taken it offroad a lot). You need compliant suspension to take things offroad which does not bode well for corners.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be low. The Cayenne, Range Rover Sport, and X5 handle amazingly well for their height; none of them are particularly low.

I have an F15 X5 with the 20 in wheels, so 275 mm front and 315 mm rear with. Not an X5M. Even without the fancy chassis-control suspension it is surprisingly engaging to drive. I’ve driven it pretty quickly on some windy roads and while it definitely isn’t as steady as a low car on the turn in, the suspension loads up quite nicely and body-roll is limited. Very unique feeling and quite fun. It doesn’t drive “like a car” but that doesn’t mean that the driving experience is bad. It’s pretty quick in a straight line and there are vents to cool the brakes so they aren’t too much of a problem either.

Now the X5 isn’t much good off-road on anything but an open field or dirt trail, but the Range Rover Sport is also quite decent in the corners but can tackle some serious terrain.
