I woke up this morning in beautiful Yosemite, and now I am having dinner at Black Angus in San Bernardino.

I have a settlement conference at the Labor Commissioner tomorrow. The dairy farmer has no time clock and paid his milkers a flat daily rate. That’s bad. Real bad.

He spent 15 minutes telling me his guys don’t need rubber boots in the barn (he does not provide them, even though he should.)

I am the foremost expert on labor law in dairies in California, and maybe the country. I have visited hundreds of dairies, and have never seen milkers without rubber boots.

This guy is kind of an asshole, and these practices could cost him hundreds of thousands of dollars. He is paying me to protect him tomorrow and I will. But I don’t have to like him.

I used to underwrite multi-line Ag/farm insurance - an interesting and diverse group of folks. I don’t miss the windshield time in the middle of the Dakotas.
