It really shouldn’t, cause if it is it’s not retracting properly and being spun by the engine. So something else likely

You’re sure that it’s the starter making the noise? If so, then either the starter circuit is staying energized when it shouldn’t, or there’s a problem with the starter itself not disengaging.

It might not be retracting properly. If I keep hearing the noise I’m going to take it into autozone and have it tested.

I read a lot online and everyone said PS pump first but it didnt whine when I turned the wheel so it might be the starter not retracting properly. If I keep hearing the noise I’m going to take it into autozone and have it tested.

It might not be retracting properly.
If the starter isn’t retracting properly, the sound it would be making is probably not going to be described as a “whiny noise”. A more appropriate description might be “there are a 1000 demons direct from hell under my hood all screaming at once”. A starter engaged with a running engine is very happy and very LOUD.
Also, if the starter remains engaged for 5 seconds, you are probably looking at some decent damage. If it was engaging for 5 minutes, I seriously doubt that starter would be starting anything ever again. My guess is the whiny noise is likely something other than the starter.

Oh by the way, that should have read “very unhappy and very loud”. Seems my brain is low on coffee today.
