Needed a 3rd car because ram Promasters do not baby.. Picked this up super duper cheap. It’s a 1 owner 2008 CR-V with 109k miles all service history accounted for. Picked it up and drove it 675 miles home averaging 24.3 mpg. The steel wheels are showing some rust may just try to find a set of the alloy wheels and swap them out unless someone knows how to get them looking new. Its base as hell and I actually love that about it. So simple and clean. Power windows, door locks, keyless entry, cruse control, awd, and a uhaul class 3 hitch that they used for a bike carrier. Step one is getting the stupid front plate holder off.

A little elbow grease and some paint would fix those steelies right up. They’d look pretty good in a darker shade of gray with that maroon paint.

One thing you can do is scrub down the rust on the wheels and paint them. Or you can take the lazy way out like my brother and coat them in multiple coats of Plasti-Dip. :)

I like that idea but I worry about painting it. Kinda like the steel finish. Seems like most wheels I see that are painted look rough within a year.

Sure someone out there uses it and could prove me wrong but %100 of the jobs I’ve seen look pretty bad when up close.

Bought it off a family member so really cheap. I think these go for 6-10k on the market but we didn’t pay anywhere near that.

Well yeah plastidipping still requires prep work and actual paint skills. Otherwise it will look like shit. Plus it is intended to be temporary, not permanent so yeah it won’t last forever no matter how good of a job you do.

Ha! just saw the second line on your reply! The kids are 8 and 5 so trust me if I would let them ride in the back of the pro they would be cheering. They think its fun to crawl around in the back.

those wheels don’t really look that bad. Painting might not even be necessary. You could just sand them down and get the surface rust off. Would be of value to clearcoat them or something maybe too. But at worst, just cleaning them will make a hell of a difference.

Going to pull them off today or tomorrow and try it out. Will watch a few videos on the youtube university first.

I’m a bad painter. That goes for every type of paint. I lack the skill and patience. I’ll try cleaning 1st but think I’m going to keep my eye out for a set of the nicer trim alloy rims that are on %75 of these things anyway.

Depends on how you use the Plasti-Dip. I “dipped” my older smart’s badges two years ago to match the tinted windows. The stuff is still on there good!

I also “dipped” the stock wheels a loooooong time back when the car was still new. Only prep work I did was cover the brake and suspension components, did it with the wheels mounted! The finish lasted for 6 months before I got bored and ripped it off. Ended up getting TSWs instead of messing around with the boring stock wheels.

Not a bad option if you’re into matte (I was, but not anymore). You really don’t need great painting skills, you just need patience and just a teeny bit of technique. :)

If you take your time, it won’t look bad. Here’s what my smart’s stock wheels looked like in 2012. I got fed up with cleaning brake dust every day. lol Eventually I got bored (matte isn’t my thing), ripped it off after 6 months, then bought TSWs. :)

The badges are still going two years strong, though.

Window tint and alloys, would complete. The look, my uncle has the same gen with alloys and tinted window (stock) but it looks really nice. 10/10 would daily.

I %100 agree and that is the plan. Nice and simple and the tint is a must here in NC the summer with no tint kills me.

Honestly that looks pretty darn good. Still not for me as I cant be trusted with things that take patience and want a more long term fix.

I don’t have tint in georgia and every summer I wish I did lol

Same here! There are times I luck out, but most of the time I just make things worse lol

Like, when I removed the stupid Plasti-Dip, I used a knife and cut a deep scratch into the wheel. D’oh!

Rented one when we went nearly out to Montauk to get the cats ... rain and nearly flooded roads and it didn’t put a foot wrong.

Bought it from a family member in western ny. It’s traversed 109k miles in a land that gets 150 inches of snow a year and hasn’t crashed yet! :) the awd works pretty darn well for a fwd based system. in snow and ice it’ll kick the rear out nicely if you poke it enough.
