A motorcycle in fact! It’s a 2012 Ducati Monster Dark 796 with abs. Got it for $6000, thanks to help from E90M3 who helped me talk the seller down, and it has around 4800 miles on it!

I used to own a WR250R and always wanted something with more than 26 bhp... Let’s just say highway travel on this thing was scary.

Kinja'd!!!

So now I do!

Also, there’s a helmet designer called Hello Cousteau that makes sweet designs. This one stood out and I asked him about the cost. So maybe i’ll get that as well.

Sweet bike, congrats! Ridden it much yet? How’s the SC Project exhaust sound?

Monsters are great and ABS is a must-have if one wants to live in the 21st century. Sounds like a good deal.

WOOOTTTT +1 for ABS, I refuse to own a daily street bike without it.

Only ridden it twice. Each time not that far, but I plan on riding it soon after it stops raining in LA... The SC exhaust is LOUD AS HELL. I’m honestly not a fan, but maybe that’ll change.

Or you can just learn how to brake properly.

My buddy had a monster and while he did like it he bitched and moaned about the lack of a faring on longer rides like more than 10 miles. He replaced it with an Aprilla.

That’s a great looking bike. I’d love to start riding sooner or later.

I’d want it in a modern car, no reason not to have it in a modern bike. I have no desire to be a bearded hipster doofus on an old metric cafe conversion. People don’t always do things properly in panic situations, which is what was designed for. But if you have 100% mad skills and can teach everyone how to “brake properly”, go for it, buy a new bike without ABS. I bow to your skills and credentials.

I think most of those cafe conversions are JIS. Maybe the beards are metric? Either way, I always thought the H-D would benefit from ABS rather than the metric guys on account of them getting into motos from reality TV and SoA.

I like the look of an unfaired bike, but I hate riding them at speed. Staying in an aerodynamic crouch all the time sucks. Getting out of the crouch turns you in a parachute, and that sucks too.

If it doesn’t have a fairing, I don’t want it.

Do HDs not have ABS these days? Indeed, I’d think that set would need it too, maybe even more due to the weight of those things. Still can’t think of a good reason to not have it on a modern bike. Even when on a track, I am not really racing, I don’t mind the nannies compensating a little for my lack of ability to clone Rossi.

Good to know. If i like it on a 400lb machine, I would definitely want it on an 800lb machine.

Congratulations! I had a 696 Monster until last fall, and while I r-e-a-l-l-y enjoyed riding it around like a hoodlum, I decided to part with it last fall for a few different reasons. Still, I loved the look of it, and the sound through the Leo Vince’ carbon fiber slip-ons was fantastic.

OK, let’s talk maintenance... you might want to check the owner’s manual to make sure, but my 696 called for timing belts every 15k miles OR 5 years. Your bike is now at the 5 years, so it really ought to have the belts done at the annual maintenance. Hopefully the previous owner included the maintenance records, but the annual is usually done sometime during the off season... and I would suspect that it hasn’t had the annual yet unless the P.O. explicitly told you otherwise.

Of course, it would probably be just fine to ride it this summer without doing that stuff. I’m just very OCD with Italian bike maintenance...

Enjoy that beautiful bike!
