OK, so why didn’t the Falcons go for two once they called that penalty on the Pats? Wouldn’t that have placed the ball at the 1-yard line? The Falcons can clearly run the ball at will.

Why risk it? They had an easy extra point and aren’t in a position that they need to lengthen the lead currently.

I get that, but what would be the percentages of a run play from the 1 yard line for the Falcons? 90%? It seems like if you get a penalty on the extra point, always take it.

Mike tomlin aside, the NFL overall is very conservative and risk averse.

And I get that, but 1st-and-goal from the one is something that all offensive coaches should live for. I think that coaches should take that 100% of the time.

More like 4th and goal on the 1. Even at 90% success rate 31/32 coaches would be too scared of that 10% chance of failure. The coverage of the sport is such that decisions are measured solely on outcomes, it’s impossible for the sports media to acknowledge something being the correct decision if it results in a negative outcome, they’d be the coach that lost the super bowl.
