Kinja'd!!!

So as you may or may not be aware, several months ago I decided to replace my aging “cheap” S63 for a newer, more sportier, CL63 AMG. My CL is and has been my favorite car that I have owned. There are only 2 cars that I have ever driven that I hold above the CL, being the 997.2 Turbo S and the car pictured above (well not that exact one but an AMG GT S).

When I bought the CL it was intended to be my Daily Driver, and it was for about a month and a half, until I got a promotion which provided me with a company car.

Since then the CL just kinda sits and waits for occasional weekend use.

Now my thought it, as much as I love my CL, if I had known I would not need a DD (that I have to pay for at least) back when I bought the CL, I likely would have opted for a 997 Turbo or a low equipped GT S.

With all the recent AMG GT models coming out, GT S prices have dropped significantly on the used market.

So I could, theoretically, sell the CL and buy a GT S and have a perfect weekend car.

But, on the flip side, I could have the CL paid off in about 2 years time, and by then, again in theory, GT S prices will have fallen even further, and then I can buy a GT S and have my CL...

So

WWYR given the situation.

1) Have the GT S now with no other toys (except for the other toys I have now)

or

2) Have the CL now, which is still an awesome freaking car, and wait it out for a few years to get a GT S and then have both.

I would pay off the CL and get another car. Having a paid off car is really nice. I paid off the M3 in a year and it was the best thing I’ve done. I was thinking about getting a C63 in addition to the M3 cause I could. Then you get to chose between which toy you want to play with.

It’s a reference to a person who used to be on Oppo a few years ago. His handle was IDRIVEACL63 or something to that effect and he basically made up a lot of stories about his car history and things he was buying.

What if you have the GT S now, and then in 2 years, also buy the Porsche?

Or vice versa

Is the CL63 the biturbo model?

My sole question is this: If you roll your current CL63 payments into a new car, what is the new timeline for being paid off?

I ask this simply because if you’re in a comfortable (or favorable) position with the payments and interest, it may just be wise to not tempt fate, or end up paying more than you otherwise would if you waited and picked up an AMG GT S after paying off the first car.

The only thing that really comes on top of that is if you really REALLY want the AMG GT S as soon as it could be dropped off in the driveway, in which case the bigger question is if you love the CL63 enough to keep driving it sparingly for two more years (which keeps mileage down and value up).

Of course, I have no idea what your budget or financial situation is, so for all I know, you could be like a client I had in the past who went and bought a Ferrari after having a bad day at work. At the same time, you could be like me, with 3 cars, two of them road worthy, and always needing attention, which drains my bank account with draconian precision with relation to a bonus or raise.

My suggestion would be to wait and have two toys. It’s always double the fun when you look outside and have to decide which car you’re going to be a troublemaker in for the day.

+1 year, give or take. Its a question of how much extra cash I want to throw at it. more cash now means lower payments now but less “spare” cash for me to use to invest and potentially make more money...

I’d say somewhere in between... lol. before I moved I had 7 toys to play with, and only 4 of them worked. I now have 4 because I took the 3 that don’t work with me to finish up and either sell or keep. My other concern comes from the fact that I financed 2 AMGs last year (although I sold the other in December) and I just bought another house. So while I have the cash and my credit is there, with all the recent dings my interest rate is likely to jump a point or 2 if I off another car so quick.

Have you looked into a Renntech R3 package? $27,680 is expensive, but it’s way cheaper than an AMG GT S, and 790 horsepower and 895 lb-ft would be an absolute ball. They also make an R3+ package that bumps output to 840 hp and 945 lb-ft, but it’s an entire Versa more than the regular R3 package.

If I keep the CL I will either be doing a Weistec stage 2 or 3, bout the same outputs as the renntech just without the cost of the renntech name.

I’ve heard of very good things regarding Weistec’s M156 supercharger systems. I’m happy to hear that it carries over to their M157 power packages, as I haven’t heard much regarding them. Stage 3 sounds absolutely fantastic, especially when you look at the massive amounts of torque you get pretty much off idle. The fact that it’s much less expensive than the Weistec system means that their fantastic 722.9 Bulletproof V2 transmission looks even more appealing.

I’m sure it was posted on here previously, but have you heard of the guy who’s rebuilding the M156 in his R63 in his home garage ? Pretty cool stuff.

Yeah. I almost did the same with my M156 in my S63 but decided to pay someone after pulling the heads and staring at the mechanical complexity before me
